1. Design and amend steering systems and components using 3D modelling software, predominately Solidworks, for a range of different vehicle manufacturers and applications: Bus, Truck, Coach and Military.
2. Create detailed comprehensive models and drawings suitable for manufacturing and assembly. This will include all required specifications, material selection, geometric tolerancing, surface treatments, etc.
3. Knowledge and use of FEA to influence the design and understanding of components/assemblies.
4. Liaise directly with customers/suppliers and internal departments (including Manufacturing) on a technical/design responsible level.
5. Experience of testing and validation, including set up and running of sample tests, technical report writing, interpreting results and subsequent decision-making activities.
6. Able to carry out ‘hand’ calculations to evaluate loads/forces/torque etc. to establish component parameters and requirements, including material suitability.
7. Knowledge and use of FMEA’s, APQP, 8D problem solving techniques.
8. Involvement with project management and advanced planning for production. Design reviews with multifunctional team members.
9. Understanding of project costing and justification – quotations, project cost estimates.
