The Role
As a Deputy Head of Uncrewed Systems, you will support the Head of Uncrewed Systems to deliver governance and oversight of QinetiQ UK’s design, development, and operation of Uncrewed Systems (UxS) in the Air, Land, and Maritime (Surface and Underwater) domains. The post holder will be a recognised expert in the field, ensuring that technical risks are identified and mitigated and that safety and regulatory requirements are met. The post holder will establish QinetiQ Safe Systems of Work where regulation is immature.
Day-to-day, you’ll review the technologies in use, regulatory operating permissions, safety arguments, CONOPS, operating manuals, and compliance evidence across the full range of systems and applications that are required to meet our business needs from R&D to T&E and service delivery.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Ensuring that an appropriate Safety Management System (SMS) is being used to manage Uncrewed Systems risk to ALARP and to engender an engaged safety culture
* Providing direction and advice relating to the risks associated with Uncrewed Systems operations to ensure that they remain compliant with regulations and that safety risk is managed ALARP
* Actively promoting a Just Culture to drive down Human Error opportunities and strive to continuously improve the overall safety of Uncrewed Systems activities
* Ensuring that Uncrewed Systems operated by QinetiQ Ltd are managed and maintained to the required standards
* Ensuring that Uncrewed Systems are being maintained and operated by extant legal requirements, regulations, and Company policy and procedures
* Ensuring that technical practices are to an appropriate standard through the application of independent assurance from Technical Excellence
Essential experience of the Deputy Head of Uncrewed Systems:
* You must have experience in Uncrewed Systems design and certification
* You must have experience in delivering and managing Uncrewed Systems operations
Essential qualifications for the Deputy Head of Uncrewed Systems:
* You should be Educated to degree level or equivalent in an applicable engineering subject
This role is 37 per week based at Boscombe Down. Hybrid working patterns are available.
MOD Boscombe Down is a unique operational site featuring the longest military runway in the UK. Primarily focusing on providing testing, evaluation, and support services for aviation and aerospace systems. Renowned for its extensive flight testing capabilities the site plays a vital role in the UK’s aviation defence contributing to the development, testing, and airworthiness of military aircraft enhancing operational readiness and effectiveness.
