The role
University of the Arts London (UAL) is looking for skilled and experienced Facilities Assistants to work across our Estates Portfolio.
These locations include: London College of Fashion (Stratford), Central St Martins (King’s Cross), Archway (Elthorne Road), London College of Communication (Elephant & Castle) and Chelsea College of Arts (Millbank).
As part of the Estates Department and Facilities Assistant’s team, you will use your skills to deliver a range of customer-focused facilities support and premises services to ensure a secure, well-maintained and friendly environment for staff, students and visitors.
This will include opening and closing arrangements for one or more properties, daily premises audits/inspections, a range of porterage duties, regular site cleaning, the processing of all incoming and outgoing deliveries, mail sorting, franking and delivery duties.
You will provide a first-line access control/security presence at specified properties, ensuring the safe access and egress of authorised staff, students, visitors and contractors. You will also be required to meet and greet all visitors in a courteous and professional manner, dealing with inquiries as appropriate, alerting hosts of their visitors and/or directing visitors to venues as appropriate.
You will also be required to undertake First Aider duties and certified training will be provided along with SIA license training.
The post holder will be required to work as part of the Estates wide operational staff on a roster and may be required at short notice to meet unexpected operational demand to move between properties on the same day.
The post holder will be required to work to the following shift pattern -
• Early Shift 07:00 - 15:00 (2 weeks)
• Late Shift 14:00 - 22:00 (2 weeks)
• Work one Saturday every 3 weeks
London College of Fashion (Stratford) has a separate shift pattern of 5 days over a 7-day week, across a 4-week cycle:
• Week (1) 07:00 - 15:00
• Week (2) 07:00 - 15:00
• Week (3) 10:00 - 18:00
• Week (4) 14:30 - 22:00
The shift pattern includes x2 Saturdays and x1 Sunday over the 4-week cycle.
About you
You will possess experience of manual handling and ‘goods inward’ operations, as well as experience of working within a customer facing environment, delivering services that include portering, security, mail-handling, event support, and service operations. Ideally, you will be a trained first aider with SIA accreditation.
You are punctual, conscientious, courteous and customer-focused, displaying a professional approach at all times. You are also competent in IT programmes such as MS Office, email and internet to enable best use of available information and communications as necessary for the post.
Experience of conveying information accurately and collaborating effectively in-line with team objectives is also essential.
Crucially, you will contribute to the improvement of standards by demonstrating accurate and up-to-date knowledge of services available in your own and related areas of work, ensuring a positive and satisfactory customer experience.
