About Us
W M Donald Ltd is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Buyer (Maternity Cover 9 months) to join our team. This role is vital in assisting with the management of an efficient and cost-effective procurement service while ensuring compliance with legislation and client specifications. You will work closely with suppliers, internal teams, and management to optimize procurement processes, maintain supplier performance, and drive cost-saving initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Supply Chain Management
1. Source and procure materials, consumables, tools, and equipment within budgets and schedules.
2. Assist with supplier performance management and maintain the approved supplier and subcontractor process.
3. Investigate and resolve vendor invoice queries.
4. Ensure purchase orders are accurately maintained.
5. Assist in tender activities and the setup and rollout of new contracts.
6. Monitor and review expenditure against budgets and targets while identifying cost-saving opportunities.
7. Conduct ongoing commercial negotiations with suppliers to secure the best value for money.
8. Identify and research potential new suppliers and assess total costs of company purchases.
9. Analyse supply scope and contract agreements to optimize procurement.
Compliance & Risk Management
1. Ensure adherence to company standards, quality systems, and business plans.
2. Maintain supplier warranty records and resolve warranty-related issues.
3. Monitor compliance with health, safety, and environmental policies.
4. Assist in meeting ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 requirements.
Collaboration & Reporting
1. Work closely with Contracts Managers, Commercial Managers, Quantity Surveyors, Site Engineers, and the Plant Team.
2. Support the Fleet and Procurement departments in ensuring efficient material control, including the yard.
3. Maintain procurement databases and generate reports for internal use.
4. Attend project meetings and supplier negotiations as required.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
1. Strong knowledge of supply chain activities.
2. Substantial experience in a purchasing environment, preferably within the construction industry.
3. Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills.
4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Intermediate level) and general IT literacy.
