BMW Financial Services GB, Farnborough – Accounting Services - 13 Month Placement (July 2025)
We have 3 placements across our Accounting teams. The teams have significant exposure to the operational aspects of accounting that are critical for the effective management and control of BMW Group Financial Services, an automotive finance business with over 600,000 retail contracts, 140,000 corporate contracts and a £16 billion balance sheet.
Our two Financial Accounting teams complete the analysis and preparation of P&L, balance sheet and statistical values to support the delivery of timely and accurate reporting on a monthly basis to BMW Group Headquarters. The role will include:
5. Reconciliation and control of specific bank and balance sheet accounts, incorporating analysis of postings within the accounts and journal preparation and posting.
6. Complete the month-end financial reporting to BMW Group Headquarters for local entities.
7. Support the business and assist with customer management and issue resolution from a financial perspective.
8. Involved in financial accounting projects and enhancements as they occur, ensuring compliance with national legislation, IFRS’s, and BMW Group Accounting Guidelines.
The Group Accounting Services team’s responsibilities are wide-ranging and include transactional banking and cash management, making payments, daily bank reconciliations, the calculation and payment of commission to the retailer network and the management of accounts payable and accounts receivable supplier ledgers. Around £21 billion of transactions are made annually, critical to the operation of our organisation and with each one being accounted for by the Group Accounting Services team! The diverse nature of the role will bring you into contact with teams across our organisation, our Headquarters in Munich and with our external providers including our banking partners. The role will include:
9. Daily internal and external bank reconciliations including the timely allocation of payments received to Customer ledgers and investigation of any unallocated funds with various internal departments.
10. Ensure all daily payment and direct debit collection files are approved in accordance with the Group Authorisation Policy and processed via internal and external transactional banking partners.
11. Processing and reconciliation of supplier invoices and accounts payable ledgers ensuring the payment of invoices within agreed payment terms. As well as raising invoices to external companies and BMW Group entities, ensuring the timely collection of funds within agreed payment terms.
12. Calculation, reconciliation and processing of retailer and partner commission payments.
13. Supporting your team with the identification, testing and implementation of process and system improvements, working alongside our projects, IT, and robotics teams.
Qualifications & Skills:
14. Studying towards a Finance, Accounting or Economics degree or, alternatively, a numerical discipline (i.e. Mathematics, Sciences or Engineering) with a demonstrable interest in financial topics. Predicted grade of 2:2 or higher
15. Strong A Levels in numerical subjects.
16. Strong communication skills including the ability to tailor style and level of detail for your audience.
17. Good organisational, time management and prioritisation skills.
18. Analytical, innovative and objective approach to problem solving.
19. Good knowledge of Microsoft Office products, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
