This post is a new position created to manage the increasing demand upon the Oculoplastics service. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the existing Oculoplastics team to deliver a high-quality and timely service to the local population. They will have the opportunity to shape and contribute to the development of the service and will also work closely with the current team of consultant colleagues and participate in a 1 in 10 (both weekday and weekend) on-call rota.
The post holder will be expected to contribute to the general ophthalmic and cataract service, and flexibility is required to meet the department's commitment to delivering efficient, safe, and high-quality patient care. The successful applicant will participate in outpatient activity, leading and managing both specialist Oculoplastics and general ophthalmology clinics, be involved in preoperative management prior to surgery, and in all aspects of the operative care of the patients. It is anticipated that the surgeon will spend the equivalent of two sessions in the operating theatre and three to four sessions a week in outpatient clinic, in addition to administrative, management, clinical governance, and supporting professional activity duties.
They will work closely with clinical colleagues, nursing, and other allied health care staff to enhance the level of patient care at the Trust. The final allocation of patient contact time, including theatre and clinics, will be agreed in discussion with the Clinical Director.
