Home First Occupational Therapist
Location: Langley Green Hospital (Acute Mental Health) Crawley
Role: Occupational Therapist, initially a 6-month fixed-term contract or secondment opportunity
Do you want to lead the way in ensuring people can get back to living their lives to the full in their local communities? We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and innovative Occupational Therapist to join our award-winning Home First team at Langley Green Hospital on our ward for older adults with mental health issues.
This post provides a great opportunity for occupational therapists at any point in their career and we are able to accept applications from Band 5, 6, and 7 Occupational Therapists.
Hours will vary dependent on banding of the successful applicant:
* Band 7 - 22.5 hours
* Band 6 - 30 hours
* Band 5 - 37.5 hours
Please note all interviews will be carried out in person, face to face.
Main duties of the job
About the Role
You will play a critical role in our innovative occupational therapy-led scheme designed to help patients on our older people's mental health acute ward return safely to their homes at the earliest opportunity. This role is all about preventing the loss of skills and confidence, supporting patients and their families/carers during the transition from hospital to home, and promoting continued recovery in the community.
Key Responsibilities
* Patient-Focused Care: Identify patients ready for discharge and provide timely assessments and interventions both on the acute ward and in the community.
* Collaboration: Work closely with the Home First OT clinical support worker, ward team, community teams, and the established DORS (Discharge Outreach Recovery Service) team.
* Autonomy and Leadership: Manage your own caseload, perform specific occupational assessments, and deliver recovery-based interventions for individuals with a range of mental health needs.
* Support and Development: Engage in regular professional supervision and access a wide range of training and CPD opportunities.

Requirements
* Skills and Experience: Excellent communication skills, ability to manage your time and caseload effectively, and experience of delivering client-centred occupational therapy assessment intervention.
* Qualifications: Professional qualification in Occupational Therapy and relevant experience in mental health.
* Driving: Ideally, you should be a car driver as Home First outreach work involves home visits.

Qualifications
* Degree/Diploma in occupational therapy
* Evidence of post-graduate level study/training
* Registration with the HPC as an occupational therapist
* Practice Education training
* Training in the use of standardised occupational therapy assessment tools
Knowledge
* Experience as a qualified occupational therapist in mental health
* Broad experience of working with clients with a range of mental health problems
* Experience of both group and individual work
* Experience of multidisciplinary working
* Experience of supervising staff and students
* Experience as a Care Coordinator
* Experience in a clinical area related to the post
* Experience in applying a range of assessment tools
