Jenny Lind is an 8-bedded acute inpatient ward for older adults with a functional mental health diagnosis that require inpatient care and treatment. The patients admitted to the ward often have complex physical health comorbidities. Applicants should have an interest in both mental and physical health care delivery.
The ward has a multi-disciplinary team approach to delivering holistic care. This includes Nurses, Health Care assistants, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Activity support workers, Consultant Psychiatrist & Junior doctors, Psychologists, and colleagues in Adult Social Care.
Jenny Lind Ward welcomes and supports student nurses and nursing associates as part of our team, and you will be expected to supervise and assess students on placement.
Jenny Lind Ward operates a rotational shift pattern system that covers a 24-hour/seven-day period. The shift starts at 0730hrs till 2000hrs and the night shift at 1930hrs till 0800hrs. This post is advertised as a Full-time post but a part-time post may be negotiable depending on the applicant.
Main duties of the job
Your day will commence with clinical handover from the outgoing shift; you will then plan the day ahead with your team. This will include allocation of patient care and therapeutic activities, ensuring all activities of daily living are supported in a person-centred way focusing on independence and well-being, reviewing care plans and risk assessments, monitoring physical health, medication administration, liaising with the medical and therapy team, discharge planning, MDT meetings, and ensuring the Mental Health Act is correctly implemented and adhered to. You will also supervise health care support workers, junior colleagues, and students on placement.

* Ability to work flexibly to cover a 24-hour/365-day service.
Skills and Abilities
* Ability to demonstrate you are able to lead and support a team of staff.
* A good understanding of physical health conditions and its management.
* Ability to organise and respond efficiently to patients' complex needs, assess, plan, implement, and review care for an allocated group of patients.
* Ability to build effective working relationships.
* Breakaway/Safety Interventions/Mappa training.
* NEWS 2 experience.
* Falls prevention and management.
Qualifications
* RN Mental Health, RN (Adult) or RNLD.
* Registered on the NMC register.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* I understand that I will be asked to provide original certificates to verify my qualifications at the point of offer.
* Completion of preceptorship.
Experience
* Where the post holder is on or above the 2nd KSF gateway, they will support the Clinical Coordinator role, as described as exceptional circumstances in the job description.

Knowledge
* Knowledge and understanding of the Mental Health Act.
