They are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing Edinburgh team. You will be expected to run your own projects, working through the RIBA stages as well as working as part of a larger team. The office has a relaxed, flexible culture and regular social events take place.
Your new role
You'll play a key part in the Mechanical Design team and will have the opportunity to lead projects and mentor junior team members. Your key responsibilities will include:
1. Ensuring an understanding of project briefs.
2. Design and specification of all Mechanical Building Services systems.
3. Carrying out the production of detailed calculations using industry-standard software tools including Hevacomp, IES, HAP, AutoCAD, Revit, Excel, etc.
4. Preparing technical specifications.
5. Collaborating with the BIM team to prepare models and drawings.
6. Representing the organisation at meetings with clients and contractors.
7. Conducting site surveys, inspections, and monitoring site works.
8. Writing reports and technical notes.
9. Maintaining complete records and archives to company standards.
10. Adhering to all quality, environmental & governance processes.
11. Managing own workload, updating the forward plan of workload regularly and working to time allocations.
12. Managing elements of project delivery and understanding budget costings.
13. Reviewing progress, including reporting any anomalies and changes of scope to the project lead.
14. Assisting with the technical development of junior staff.
What you'll need to succeed
1. Degree qualified, or equivalent qualification, in Building Services Engineering / Mechanical Engineering or related subjects.
2. Chartered Engineer, or working towards CEng with CIBSE or IET.
3. Good level of computer literacy in a range of mechanical digital tools - Hevacomp, IES, HAP, AutoCAD, Revit, etc.
4. Awareness of building physics principles.
5. Experience of working in a design consultancy and/or some experience of working within a contractor design environment is beneficial.
6. Good knowledge of appropriate technical standards.
7. Able to take charge of personal project deliverables, make decisions on developing the discipline design elements, act on own initiative and operate in a proactive way.
8. Good report writing skills; experience of making presentations to and attending meetings with clients will be useful.
9. Comfortable working within time and cost budgets as agreed at project briefing meetings.
