This is an exciting opportunity for a therapist with a broad range of experience to join our 'front door' SLT service. NUH Therapy and Rehab Service have a multi-disciplinary therapy team that works in the admissions areas at Queens Medical Centre. The team comprises ofSpeech & Language therapy,Physiotherapy, Occupational therapy, and therapy support staff.
The SLT 'front door' service provides input to a number of admissions and assessment areas including Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), Geriatric Admissions Unit, and the Emergency Department (ED). The therapy team strengthen early decision making to facilitate discharge or admissions to the appropriate specialities. You will work closely with another SLT and Therapies colleagues to continue shaping, innovating and develop this service.
This post is part of the Specialist Medicine and Dementia inpatient team. There will be opportunities for you to develop you instrumental swallow assessment skills in FEES and videofluoroscopy.
You will be joining a team of enthusiastic, supportive, innovative therapists and assistants. There is a high level of clinical expertise within the team. We have strong links with the wider MDT and community SLT services.
The post holder is responsible for providing a highly specialist SLT assessment, management and treatment programme to people with communication and swallowing difficulties.
The post holder will provide highly specialist clinical expertise, with experience working with a wide range of aetiologies and specialisms.
The post holder will provide day to day management of the service and provide high quality clinical supervision.
The post holder may also lead on strategic developments within their specialism, in liaison with their colleagues and service leads.
Please note this is a part time post working closely with a band 7 colleague.
NUH is a large teaching hospital, across multiple sites, the acute sites are the Queens Medical Centre and City Hospital. The Acute Adult and Children's SLT services work across sites, working alongside a separate ENT SLT service. We work across a very broad range of acute specialties including Healthcare of the Older Person, Respiratory, and Critical Care. NUH host a number of regional services including Neurosciences unit, Major Trauma Centre, a comprehensive Stroke unit, Trent Cardiac Centre, Burns Unit and Upper GI services. We also have SLTs within the Neuro-rehabilitation unit, the MDT neuro-rehabilitation outpatient services, and an SLT service for Neurology outpatients.
Speech and Language Therapy is part of the Therapy and Rehabilitation Directorate, under clinical support. The service is lead by SLTs.

Service delivery
To work autonomously to provide a coordinated and highly specialist service to designated specialism within a multi-disciplinary/multi-agency context and inform and advise the service leads as to training, resources, trends and development needs
To work collaboratively with a variety of different agencies/professionals ensuring management and treatment meets the holistic needs, providing a well co-ordinated care plan for specialism/setting
To represent the Speech and Language Therapy service at agreed forums
To represent speech, language and communication and/or dysphagia needs at agreed forums
To participate in multi- disciplinary projects as agreed.
Clinical Practice
To independently manage, triage and prioritise own complex caseload providing a highly specialist SLT assessment, formulation, diagnosis, intervention and advice based on evidence based practice
The post requires
Recognised Speech & Language Therapy Degree
HCPC and RCSLT registration
Evidence of appropriate CPD post qualifying.
Excellent IT skill
