Technical Support Technician - Defence and Military Systems - Permanent - Attractive - South-West
A Technical Support Technician is required to join an International Defence Systems company that designs, manufactures, and supports world leading military Systems. The successful Technical Support Technician will be responsible for engineering tasks to facilitate delivery of new and refurbished products. The Technical Support Technician will also provide team support and be involved with new product introduction activities. The successful Technical Support Technician will be in close liaison with the engineering design authority and will be a key member of the ITS team, working flexibly and at pace and using their professional skills and experience to ensure technical requirements and lead times are met in a safe and efficient manner. The Technical Support Technician with training experience and evidence of ownership may lead to progression to the engineering role .
Technical Support Technician will be responsible for the following:
1. Support design and program reviews, including wash-up meetings, risk reviews.
2. Work with and support multi-disciplined teams in the introduction of new products and processes.
3. Supporting cross training within the team and the business.
4. Generate assembly, disassembly and function test documentation and working instructions.
5. Prepare for and complete the mechanical assembly or disassembly and testing of components
6. Conduct assembly operations to defined production standards and function tests or troubleshooting.
7. Liaise with operations personnel and the Team leader to determine daily production requirements.
8. Ensure work instructions are adhered to at all times and that all Quality requirements are met.
9. Support continuous improvements activities in this area of the business.
10. Maintain a high standard of housekeeping and cleanliness.
11. Undertake other additional duties that may be required from time to time as determined by Lead.
12. Working within principles and Trade Compliance (UK and ITAR) control plans
13. Provide constructive feedback as required to improve our products and processes.
The Technical Support Technician should have the following Qualifications Skills or Experience:
14. Self-motivated, self-starter, able to work without supervision.
15. Able to work at pace to an agreed time-scale, and willing to work additional hours when necessary.
16. Good communicator, both written and verbal, internally and with suppliers and customers.
17. Able and willing to travel worldwide when necessary.
18. In a position to obtain UK security clearance. Further restrictions may apply to certain projects.
19. Able to use strong problem-solving skills.
20. Able to use best practice techniques and be structured and methodical in working practices.
21. A practical 'hands on' approach, comfortable working with high value, precision components.
22. Able to produce quality output and accurate documentation to agreed standards.
23. Have an understanding of the business interests when working with customers and suppliers.
24. Able to test hydro-pneumatic components and systems.
25. Able to use standard measuring equipment such as micrometers, verniers, etc.
26. Able to interpret engineering drawings and specifications
27. Able and willing to undertake additional training and train or mentor others when needed.
28. Able to support activities with APQP team as necessary, including defect and quality concerns.
29. Health and safety aware - adhere to company safety policy at all times.
30. Have a positive attitude to continuous professional development.
31. Possess a clean valid UK driving licence
32. Time served with experience in a mechanical manufacturing, assembly and test environment.
33. Computer literate, including use of some or all of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
34. Ability to operate 5S principles within the workplace and Lean six sigma training/understanding.
35. Experience in the Defence sector and/or with heavy tracked or wheeled vehicles is highly desirable.
36. Experience in advanced technology industries such as defence, aerospace or automotive desirable.
Security Clearance (SC) may be required due to the nature of the Defence products involved
