Temporary Enforcement Officer - Trading Standards

Pay Rate: £19.02 per hour PAYE
37 Monday – Friday, normal working hours
This opening assignment is for 1-2 months

Deliver effective enforcement and educational interventions and support local consumers and businesses to give Sheffield a better trading environment. The work will be a mix of case work and projects.
Key Responsibilities
Enforce Trading Standards legislation via a variety of methods including inspections, projects, market surveillance and targeted advice/education
Conduct and support officers conducting investigations, produce written reports for court, as required attend civil and criminal hearings, obtaining warrants, organising & undertaking PACE interviews, conducting covert surveillance, applications for RIPA and producing/serving relevant enforcement notices.
Orovide legal advice to businesses and other SCC services on regulatory compliance.
Demonstrate excellent customer care skills in interactions with consumers, to provide advice and assistance to resolve consumer problems and prevent similar problems.
Collect, assess, analyse and share intelligence in a lawful manner and to contribute to the Service’s tasking and co-ordination process.
Liaise with other council departments, enforcement agencies, government departments and professional bodies and participate in other agencies projects.
Be lead officer on the development, management and delivery of certain SCC TS multi-agency enforcement operations assigned to them.
Develop and provide training and advice to relevant staff internal or external to the organisation.
Help develop and deliver educational and behaviour change initiatives.
Develop and maintain knowledge in designated areas of legislation appropriate to the role.

Qualifications:
Trading Standards Practitioner Certificate (TSPC) or equivalent qualification, and/or, equivalent knowledge and experience.
Hold a valid UK driving licence.
Knowledge:
A sound knowledge and experience of criminal and (relevant) civil procedures and investigations legislation, including laws of evidence and disclosure.
Knowledge and understanding of the application of workplace Health and Safety legislation.
Experience:
Experience of project delivery and the ability to contribute to or lead a successful project
Experience of effective partnership working.
Skills & Abilities:
Competent IT skills
Strong interpersonal skills to gain the agreement and acceptance of others, including colleagues, senior managers and customers.
Ability to make decisions and solve problems to meet operational targets, involving devising solutions and prioritising the resources available to meet agreed objectives and targets.
Ability to provide legal advice on regulatory compliance, for example, to business as well as investigate offences, prepare concise accurate information reports, sufficient to give evidence in court proceedings.
Ability to interpret and apply statutory guidance, legislation and similar documents to successfully deliver regulatory work.
