RAN Network Design Specialist

ROLE OVERVIEW:
The RAN network has grown increasingly complex over recent years. We now have 3 technology layers, with multiple carriers. The technology can be delivered in hundreds of combinations depending on the environment and capacity to support our customers. This is delivered by three main macro vendors.
The role holder will be responsible for delivering the E2E technical solutions deployed within the RAN, which includes complete Radio Network Design (All technologies) and ensuring that the produced design meets the quality within the agreed time frame. The role will cover hardware, software, and radio feature design and introduction across Macro, Micro, and Small cells. Ensure work is delivered to a high standard and within a challenging timeframe.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Creates and implements technical solutions for a domain or cross domains/portfolios of work within a specific technology area autonomously, understanding how solutions impact systems internally and/or externally and assessing the impact of change.
2. Provides technical quality assurance over the work of other engineers through a matrix team structure.
3. Provides sound technical expertise to consult on significant component(s) of a technical solution within a specific domain or cross domain.
4. Identifies opportunities to improve standards of practice within a project, continuously enhancing ways of working.
5. Delivers resolutions to problems that tend to be complex, cross-domain, or of high impact to customers.
6. Works both within the team and across the department to ensure deliveries are on time and to a high level of quality.
7. Works in conjunction with internal Design/Deployment/Operations teams and our external customers/suppliers to ensure appropriate End to End solutions are delivered to ensure RAN Design & Customer experience KPI Targets are maintained/exceeded.
8. Supports the field trials of new products, software releases, and features prior to wider deployments.
9. Consults with wider teams to develop design scopes & requirements.
10. Develops, reviews & comments on low-level designs from vendors.
11. Analyses and informs technical projects, ensuring planned deliveries are achievable, they call on the most appropriate technical options available, and are effectively managing risks and issues.
MANDATORY SKILLS:
1. Make decisions in ambiguous situations using incomplete information or differing opinions (e.g., divided team loyalties or unclear deliverables).
2. To suit the needs of a customer, colleague, or client; move outside of expected process or practice.
3. 5+ years' experience in Mobile Radio Access Network Design, planning, or delivery.
4. Working knowledge of Ericsson and Nokia RAN products and features.
5. Able to analyse in depth, drive test logs, Wireshark traces, and protocol analyzers traces for 2G, 4G & 5G networks.
6. Ability to analyse network data.
7. Familiarity with test software & devices (i.e., Accuver).
8. Evidence of optimising existing long-standing processes and ways of working.
