As part of our dedicated team, you’ll tackle a broad range of responsibilities, including:
1. Advising on Employment Law: Partner with Group HR to provide practical, solution-focused guidance on disciplinary matters, grievances, flexible working requests, and capability issues.
2. Commercial Contracts: Review, draft, and negotiate contracts, particularly in the construction sector, with a focus on the NEC suite of contracts.
3. Ensuring Compliance: Take charge of vetting subcontractors and suppliers to ensure they meet stringent criteria (e.g., insurances, references, and adherence to our protocols).
4. Engaging with External Counsel: Instruct and collaborate with external lawyers on complex property transactions and large-scale litigation cases.
We need someone with the expertise and drive to hit the ground running:
1. Essential Skills:
1. Strong drafting skills with a sharp eye for commercial priorities.
2. A confident, assertive personality to:
1. Drive operational managers to review key contract elements.
2. Refuse subcontractor approval when criteria aren’t met.
3. Handle sensitive disciplinary actions with professionalism.
2. Desirable Experience:
1. Knowledge of NEC contracts and employment law is a plus, but it’s not a deal-breaker. What matters most is your eagerness to learn and deliver pragmatic advice.
