This vacancy is within the Safety Case Branch of SZC Design Authority. The Design Authority Safety Case Engineer will report to the safety case integration group lead of DA and will be responsible for leading the development of the various sections of the PCSR under Licence Condition 14 arrangements. A background in fault studies is desirable to lead on safety analysis sections of the PCSR. Candidates with a broader range of skills are welcomed in anticipation of future vacancies in Safety Case Branch.
As the owner of the safety case during the design and construction phases, you will:
1. Advise the external and internal regulators and responsible designer on the adequacy of the safety case and associated deliverables.
2. As the section lead for PCSR, govern the technical ownership of responsible topic areas relating to the safety case, set safety case strategy, manage a team of safety case authors, and lead sections through the safety case life cycle: authoring, peer review, verification, internal regulator, external regulator, nuclear safety committee, etc.
3. Act as the intelligent customer for the safety case through undertaking technical oversight over the licensing, procurement, manufacture, construction, commissioning, and operation phases of the station lifecycle.
4. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including EDF SA, EDF Nuclear Operations, EDF Hinkley Point C, EDF Nuclear Services, the Responsible Designer (EDF SA, Edvance and CNEPE), internal regulators, Office for Nuclear Regulation, and supply chain partners.
5. Provide influence and direction to maximise the benefit of replication.

We hope that the applicants would have the following skills:
1. Degree or equivalent in engineering, science or maths.
2. Experience in the nuclear industry or other highly regulated industries is highly desirable.
3. Demonstrable evidence of complex safety case management/production within the nuclear industry, including design, substantiation, verification & validation, and safety justification of systems, structures, and components is highly desirable.
4. Knowledge/experience of key related nuclear safety case disciplines is preferred but not essential (Fault Studies, Normal Operations, Classification and categorisation, Civils, Probabilistic Safety, Human Factors, System Reliability, Deterministic Safety Principles, etc.). Candidates with a broader background are welcomed in anticipation of future vacancies opening in the safety case branch.
5. Ability to identify issues and develop solutions in the context of nuclear plant construction through to operation.
6. Ability to interpret the big picture, distil a range of source data and analysis to define, set scope and strategically plan the delivery of the safety case.
7. Good communication skills and ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
8. Ability to operate autonomously or as part of a team.
9. Excellent organisation skills.
