Finatal has been retained by a PE-backed professional services business with a turnover of £22m and an EBITDA of £4m. The company, based across the Midlands, is highly acquisitive and seeks a Financial Controller to manage all aspects of financial reporting for both the business and its parent company, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with relevant accounting standards, regulations, and company policies. The role will also involve maintaining effective internal financial controls.
The successful candidate will demonstrate integrity, possess excellent communication skills, and be client-focused, ensuring the needs of clients are always prioritised. You will join a team of experienced professionals, with sector experience being a significant advantage.
The Responsibilities
1. Prepare consolidated and entity-level financial statements, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
2. Manage month-end reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, cash flow analysis, and oversee financial processes such as payroll, VAT, and tax accounts.
3. Supervise cash management, client funds, cash flow modelling, and working capital optimisation.
4. Develop financial policies, enhance controls, and implement a risk and controls framework to monitor and report financial risks.
5. Manage the central accounting system, coordinate tax compliance, prepare VAT returns, and oversee debt covenant reporting.
6. Lead external audits, ensure regulatory compliance, and support the preparation of accounting papers for audit committees.
7. Collaborate with colleagues to integrate acquisitions, foster a culture of compliance, and evaluate improvements in financial procedures and technology.
8. Recruit, train, supervise, and develop finance department staff.
The Requirements
1. 5+ years' experience in professional services.
2. Strong technical knowledge of accounting standards (FRS 102).
3. Experience preparing consolidated financial statements.
4. M&A planning and integration experience (beneficial).
5. Coordination and management of external audits.
6. Expertise in financial risk management, controls, and compliance.
7. Experience in process re-engineering and policy development.
