An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Deputy Ward Manager on the paediatric unit in the Grange University Hospital. The unit consists of 2 wards, 0-5 years and 5-16 years, a high dependency unit and a Children's Emergency Assessment Unit. The successful applicant will likely be based predominantly in the school age area but could be asked to work anywhere on the unit if needed.
The successful candidate will oversee the acute ward areas and manage teams, supporting the ward manager. You will need to have a good understanding of patient flow. The post will involve making decisions about patient safety and staffing. Out of hours you will be in charge of allocating patients presenting for admission. You will need to have a good idea about acuity and ensuring patient safety.
You will need to be a good team player. We have a very close team ethos. You will need to have a good understanding of how Paediatrics sits within the organisation, and who helps us.
You will need to be approachable and support staff, ensuring that patients are moved through the unit as smoothly as possible meeting the expectations of the staff and families.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will need to be motivated and enthusiastic with good leadership skills and have significant experience as a Band 5 staff nurse working in a Paediatric acute setting. You will need to have a flexible approach to work, excellent team working, communication skills and be passionate about developing and maintaining high standards of care to children and their families.
Clear and timely documentation is essential, as well as participating in service improvement including audits. The successful applicants will have a flexible approach to work and a warm caring approach to children and their families.
The post will include various shifts and the successful post holder will need to be willing to work anywhere within the division. The post is full time but for this role we are open to discussing the possibility of reduced hours, flexible start and finish times, compressed hours, annualised hours, and term time arrangements. Please provide your preferred flexible working arrangement and we will consider and discuss if you are shortlisted.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
