* HOURS: 40 days across the project.

* Hours: Monday-Friday - 9am - 5pm

This Archive Research Manager role is an exciting opportunity to help develop and deliver a heritage project in celebration of 150 years of Cambridge Corn Exchange; bringing together the first collection of archive materials and oral histories about this important building, all of which will form the backbone of an exciting programme of public engagement, schools workshops, new digital assets, and culminate in the co-curation of an exhibition to be launched in the building in November 2025.
Responsibilities:
1. Researching and identifying relevant archive materials about Cambridge Corn Exchange.
2. Identifying archive materials and items that could be digitised to be shared on the Cambridge Corn Exchange website.
3. Working with and supporting volunteer researchers.
4. Leading on the digitising of available selected items.
5. Identifying items for the exhibition and advising and supporting in developing and maintaining best practice standards in archival care.
6. Carrying out other heritage research to uncover key content and stories for the exhibition, digital content, and heritage tours.
7. Supporting the delivery of community workshops with community partner organisations, facilitating discussions about the history of the Cambridge Corn Exchange, and identifying and recording oral histories.
8. Complying with all legislation including GDPR and IP for this project – liaising with external partners as needed.
9. Developing information to share for the schools and public engagement programme that the Literary Festival and engagement team can use as a learning stimulus for both schools workshops and a public digital exhibition programme.
10. Working closely with the Project Manager to identify key archive materials and oral histories for the 150th exhibition, including permanent displays for the building and digital content for online platforms.
11. Supporting the Interpretation Specialist in the exhibition curation and planning.
12. Supporting the Project Manager in the planning and delivery of the exhibition installation.
13. Supporting the CCE team in developing a system for identifying and recording future archive items.
14. Supporting the evaluation of the project.
Essential Skills and Experience:
1. Experience of archives management, including implementing and developing digital systems.
2. Experience of working in a previously uncatalogued archive collection.
3. Organisational skills needed to work on a heritage participation project involving many different stakeholders.
4. Experience in working with volunteers.
5. Sound knowledge of GDPR, copyright, and data protection legislation and practical application.
6. Experience of recording oral histories.
7. Experience of supporting the development/delivery of heritage/archive exhibition/display.
8. Commitment to making archives and heritage learning accessible to all by working directly with members of the public using participatory and open approaches.
