Job Description Summary
At Dowty Propellers (a GE Aerospace company) we design, manufacture, repair and overhaul a range of carbon fibre propeller systems for Military and Civil applications. We proudly design, manufacture and obtain Type Certification for the complete propeller system from our new state of the art Headquarters facility in Brockworth, Gloucestershire, UK.
The successful applicant will join the ME team who translate accurately designed intent into production solutions for manufacturing and our suppliers. We use a Safety, Quality, Delivery & costs framework operating across serial production, New Product Introduction and New Technology Introduction programs.
Job Responsibilities
1. Keeping yourself, the ME team and the business safe and compliant in all your daily tasks.
2. Authoring and approving manufacturing process routings, process specifications, tooling solutions and rework activities (UK CAA Part 21).
3. Provide technical task planning and authorisation for repair, overhaul and rework (UK CAA Part 145) activities.
4. Calculation and maintenance of process standard times.
5. Advice and support for training, shop daily management and shop queries.
6. Ownership and validation of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) programs for production assets.
7. Execute structured problem solving and robust root cause corrective actions (RCCA).
8. Identify solutions and improvements then collaborate cross-functionally to deliver them through research, development, qualification and into production.
9. Collaborate with external suppliers as necessary in partnership with the sourcing team.
10. Create process and product quality plans, measurement systems analysis, process failure mode effect analysis (PFMEA) in accordance with Advanced Process Quality Planning (APQP).
Minimum Qualifications, Experience and Characteristics:
1. HNC or degree and/or relevant manufacturing engineering shop floor experience.
2. Understanding of Manufacturing Engineering duties and success factors.
3. Able to interpret 2D (legacy) drawings, technical specifications, and state on manufacturability challenges and production solutions.
4. Excellent written and verbal communications.
5. Commitment to personal development and technical learning.
Desired Characteristics
1. Engineering Technician Accreditation.
2. HNC in an Engineering discipline (Level 4).
3. 3D CAD Competence.
4. Lean knowledge and enjoys continuous improvement.
5. Experience of dealing directly with auditors, customers, and external suppliers.
