Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Sunderland South Tyneside Children and Young Peoples Service for someone keen to develop skills in psychological therapy. We are recruiting a Band 6 Community Practitioner to undertake training to complete the Post-Graduate Diploma in Evidence Based Psychological Therapies (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy). The course is a full-time course for the first year of the post starting in January 2025 at Northumbria University. You will acquire the skills and abilities to be a competent and effective CBT Practitioner. On completion of this training, the post holder will work in the service using the skills learned and receive supervision from a suitably qualified CBT therapist.
Our service provides specialist mental health assessment and intervention for children and young people with complex mental health problems, including those with a learning disability. The multi-disciplinary team comprises a highly skilled and experienced workforce.
To be responsible for the assessment and management of casework of service users who have substantial and complex mental health needs.
To provide evidence-based interventions following a full assessment as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
To undertake duties in supporting families and partner agencies, and attend multi-agency meetings to safeguard children.
Main duties of the job
We deliver a wide range of evidence-based assessment and interventions across different pathways: mental health, learning disability, and neurodevelopmental assessment pathway. We offer many interventions to young people and their families, including evidence-based psychological therapies such as CBT, EMDR, family therapy, and art therapy.
Collaborative working with partner agencies and working as part of a multi-disciplinary team is an integral aspect of this post.
Person specification
Education and Qualification
* Professional Qualification and current Professional Registration as a First Level Registered Nurse (RNMH, RMN, RNLD) or equivalent as an AHP, Social Worker or Clinical Psychologist
* Evidence of post-registration training in clinical/psychological interventions/skills relevant to the post.
* Proven track record of post-registration clinical experience relevant to the post.
* Training in CPA (Care Programme Approach), Safeguarding, MAPPA (Multi Agency Panel for the Protection of Vulnerable Adults) and Child Protection.
* Up-to-date knowledge/experience of relevant legislation.
* Experience of working within a community team
* Experience working with children and young people
Knowledge and Experience
* 12 to 24 month band 5 qualified nurse experience dependent upon service need.
* Awareness and understanding of professional accountability, NMC standards and other local and national initiatives.
* Knowledge of differential diagnosis
Skills
* Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to work autonomously and within a team
* Proven ability to carry out and provide comprehensive written assessments of individuals with complex mental health needs.
* Risk Assessment and Risk Management/Safety Planning skills.
* Clinical leadership
