Opportunity
Working as part of a skilful multi-discipline team, Head Medical is seeking a Consultant in Forensic Psychiatry who would offer outstanding clinical leadership and clinical care for the patients admitted to the functional ward. Working for one of the largest NHS mental health trusts in the country, serving a population of over one million people in Nottinghamshire, this is an exciting time to come and join the medical workforce and have the opportunity to shape the provision of care to patients within the community.
This vacancy was created as a replacement post and would suit an individual particularly interested in working with male patients with mental illness.
Newly appointed Consultants will be offered mentoring which will be arranged by the Associate Medical Director.
This is a 10 PA (7.5 DCC and 2.5 SPA) plus 1 in 8 on call post based on Arnold Lodge, Cordelia Close, Leicester. The Consultant Psychiatrist will provide pre-admission assessments in line with contractual requirements and provide Commissioners with appropriate advice. Arnold Lodge ordinarily receives 70-90 pre-admission referrals of men with a primary diagnosis of mental illness per year. The postholder will have 3 full-time Consultant colleagues to assist in dealing with these. Additional duties include:
* Manage an inpatient case load of approximately 12-14 patients.
* Chair ward rounds, convene and chair CPA meetings and provide clinical leadership to the MDT.
* Provide timely reports to Hospital Managers, Tribunals, the Ministry of Justice and Courts.
* Liaise with all necessary organisations in order to provide patients with the appropriate care pathway and will convene and chair Section 117 meetings.
* Be actively encouraged to develop expertise and participate in a range of psychological programmes offered in Arnold Lodge.
Arnold Lodge is a purpose-built Regional Secure Unit which has recently been extensively upgraded and expanded. There is further planned expansion and refurbishment. Arnold Lodge receives referrals from courts, prisons, the probation service, social services, high secure hospitals, and other mental health units for the assessment and treatment of mentally disordered offenders and others with similar needs.
