Job Description Resident Engineer Office Devonport [REO(D)] Manager - Submarines Full time RRSL Site Office, HM Naval Base Devonport, Plymouth, Devon The Resident Engineering Office (Devonport) [REO(D)] Manager is the senior Rolls-Royce Nuclear Steam Reactor Plant Technical Authority representative at the Devonport dockyard, Plymouth where maintenance, inspections, testing, and operations are undertaken on Royal Navy’s submarine’s. The REO has delegated Technical Authority from the RRSL In-Service PWR1/2 Chief Engineer and represents the MoD Naval Reactor Plant Authorisee (NRPA) to ensure activities in the dockyard do not compromise design intent and the authorisees’ safety management arrangements. The REO has a mixed team of both Mechanical and Electrical Assistant Resident Engineers to enable the delivery of these responsibilities to ensure the right outcomes, not least submarine availability. The REO and his team will work jointly and collaboratively with both the wider Rolls-Royce team in Devonport, the local Babcock Industrial Partner in the dockyard together with the MoD and Royal Navy Customer, as well maintaining strong arrangements linking back into RRSL Raynesway. What you will be doing: You’ll lead the REO(D) team to operate at the highest professional standards at all times and to deliver their service in the most effective and efficient manner, steering them in our mission and developing them to be at their best. You’ll be responsible for oversight of NSRP activities on behalf of the NSRP Technical Authority and manage a significant audit and surveillance programme across the NRP to provide assurance to the Chief Engineers and NRPA that the plant has been maintained in accordance with design intent. You’ll lead the response to local Devonport NSRP issues as they arise at site. You’ll be an approving member of Authorisation Groups You will work collaboratively with other local and wider Rolls-Royce teams, together with Babcock and the MoD in order to improve overall effectiveness and ultimate delivery of Vanguard and Astute Class submarine availability, as well as support to managing those submarines now out of service. A high level of NSRP knowledge including plant, systems, components, safety justification and commissioning requirements. The following qualifications are required to be compliant with Nuclear Training Requirements Plan - Nuclear Warship Support Course (NWSC) and Dockyard Nuclear Systems Course (DNSC) or relevant RN equivalents. Experience of managing complex systems build and commissioning at the dockside. Former CAT A or CAT B Watchkeeper experience beneficial. Highly collaborative, using the strengths of a diverse team to deliver the programme objectives and able to build strong relationships across organisational boundaries and influence key stakeholders.
