Uniper's Department for Strategic Technical Services provides a range of services for the Company including acting as the central authority for gas turbine expertise, providing fleet support, driving engineering excellence and innovation across Uniper's assets. We ensure the effective implementation of best practices, seamless collaboration, and cost-efficient solutions aligned with Uniper's operational and strategic goals. Additionally, by fostering technical development and readiness, we support Uniper's transition to modern, environmentally friendly energy assets. Reporting to the Head of Strategic Technical Services and collaborating closely with the Gas Turbine Services Team, the Gas Turbine Technical Head serves as the technical authority for gas turbine competency across Uniper's assets. This role includes providing expert input and technical authorisation for the through-life support of gas turbine assets (excluding combustion, fuels & emissions) while actively fostering Gas Turbine Services Team member competencies and driving technical development initiatives.
Your responsibilities
We are looking for a highly experienced and qualified Gas Turbine Engineer to provide technical expertise and proactively support gas turbine plant throughout the Company.
You will:
1. Provide expert technical consultancy to team members and direct to stakeholders, relating to gas turbine assets, from new-build specifications to through-life support including inspection, repair, maintenance and replacement recommendations;
2. Compile and authorize technical reports for work that you undertake, as well as reports from your own and other teams, as required, relating to gas turbine expertise;
3. Be responsible for technical development, education, coaching and mentoring of staff and undertaking scheduled technical competencies reviews;
4. Evaluate 3rd party modification and uprate proposals and specifications for new and retrofit plant;
5. Provide specialist advice and input to plant improvement projects such as flexible operation, rapid start and damage limitation studies;
6. Drive the development of existing and new services for gas turbine plant;
7. Be responsible for recommending if a unit can be returned to service after unexpected deterioration has been found on service-exposed gas turbine components;
8. Provide effective technical input to failure investigations and root cause analysis;
9. Actively contribute to R&D projects and improvement concepts relating to gas turbine plants;
10. Be a collaborative team player, engaging with technical specialists from other disciplines, team members, and stakeholders.
Your profile
Essential:
1. Extensive technical experience in the areas described working with a gas turbine original equipment manufacturer, having a background in gas turbine equipment design and development;
2. A degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent comprehensive experience in a gas turbine related field;
3. Familiarity with large and medium-sized gas turbines used in power generation applications;
4. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to establish and nurture effective working relationships, internally and externally, with the capability to effectively explain complex technical issues in simple language;
5. The ability to effectively plan, manage and deliver a portfolio of projects to time, cost and quality, both independently and within a team;
6. Ability to motivate, challenge, and inspire individuals to deliver high performance;
7. Awareness of specialist competencies, beyond those within the Gas Turbine Services Team, that may be required to deliver technical support of gas turbine equipment;
8. High technical proficiency in written and spoken English;
9. Experience in compilation and critical review of clear and concise technical reports;
10. Competency in Microsoft office applications, such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
11. Strong HSSE focus.
Desirable:
1. Chartered membership or equivalent accreditation, of a relevant institution or be a UK/Internationally recognised technical expert;
2. Familiarity with small power generation and aeroderivative gas turbines;
3. Experience working for an operator of power generation gas turbines;
4. Familiarity with equipment and technologies used for inspection and assessment of gas turbines and associated hardware;
5. Experience in performance testing and/or data analysis of gas turbine;
6. Willingness to travel and provide support on site;
7. Awareness of regulatory issues and constraints associated with gas plant;
8. Possession of a valid driving license.
