YEAR 3 or 4 FORM TEACHER
Required for September 2025
An enthusiastic and inspirational teacher is required as a Year 3 or 4 Form Teacher.
An eagerness to contribute to other areas of this flourishing boarding school is vital, as is a sense of humour.

Academic
* To teach any of Maths, English, Science, History, Geography or TPR to Year 3 or 4 boys.
* To set and mark internal exams.
* To review boys’ progress at regular intervals in line with the school’s ‘mark reading’ system.
* To liaise with the member of staff responsible for the other Year 3 or 4 class.
* To communicate with parents on a regular but informal basis concerning the progress of their sons.
* To review all available assessment data to better inform teaching.
* To be responsible for the pastoral welfare of the boys in their form.
* To supervise ‘prep’ for seniors and ‘reading’ times.
* To offer the ability to teach one academic subject to a class higher up the school up to and including Year 6 if needed.
* To assess new boys and help to place in appropriate streams.
* To attend parent/teacher meetings.
* To write full termly reports.
* To attend departmental meetings.
General
* Provision of a two early evening activities during the Michaelmas and Lent terms and one in the Summer term.
* Supervision of school as member of daily duty team periodically (Monday to Saturday) and as part of ‘weekend team’ from time to time as required.
* Supervision of ‘Junior Corridor’ on weekly basis and from time to time as required.
* Provision of two activities on Thursday afternoon as required.
* Supervision of prep rooms as required.
* Coaching of games on daily basis if relevant and/or supervision of off-games boys or the changing room.
* Each member of staff has a whole day off from Tuesday to Friday in compensation for above duties…and 19 weeks holiday a year! 8 weeks in the summer, 4 weeks at each of Christmas and Easter, and 3 one week half-terms.
* With regard to pensions, staff have the choice of being in TPS or a Defined Contribution Scheme. In each case, the employer’s contribution will be just over 28%.
* Duty to promote and safeguard the welfare of the boys.
Person Specification
The successful applicant will have the following qualities:
* Ability to teach Maths, English, Science, History, Geography or TPR to boys in Year 3 or 4.
* Ability to teach one academic subject to a class higher up the school up to and including Year 6.
* Ability to inspire boys to feel confident and secure in their academic progress.
* Ability to enable boys to enjoy the subjects taught by the Form Teacher.
* Ability to offer high level and compassionate pastoral care.
* Ability to communicate with parents effectively.
* A well-developed sense of humour
* An understanding that, at its heart, prep school life should be fun.
* A good level of competency in the use of ICT in the classroom and beyond with a view to ICT being used to enhance the boys’ learning
* Ability to enable boys to enjoy their learning in the Lower School
* Ability to work as part of a team.
* Willingness to contribute to the life of a busy boarding school on a wide variety of fronts.
* Willingness to promote and safeguard the welfare of all the boys.
