We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Assistant Headteacher SENDCO to join a thriving secondary school in Canvey Island. This full-time, contract role provides a fantastic opportunity to lead on SEND provision, ensuring that students receive the support and interventions they need to thrive in an inclusive learning environment.
As an Assistant Headteacher SENDCO, you will take a strategic lead in developing and implementing SEND policies, working closely with staff, students, and external professionals to deliver tailored support and interventions. This role requires strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills, as well as a commitment to ensuring all students with SEND have access to high-quality education.
This position is ideal for an aspiring or experienced SENDCO looking to progress into senior leadership. While prior experience is desirable, it is not essential, as training and professional development opportunities will be provided.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the strategic development of SEND provision across the school.
* Ensure the effective identification, assessment, and support of students with SEND.
* Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external agencies to create individualised learning plans.
* Oversee the implementation of EHCPs, ensuring students receive the appropriate support.
* Provide training and guidance to staff on SEND best practices and inclusive teaching strategies.
* Monitor and evaluate student progress, implementing interventions where necessary.
* Support the whole-school leadership team in driving improvement in SEND provision.
* Communicate effectively with parents, carers, and multi-agency professionals to ensure holistic student support.
* Uphold safeguarding policies and ensure the welfare of all students.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
* National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) or willingness to work towards it.
* Experience in a secondary school setting is desirable but not essential.
* A strong understanding of SEND legislation, EHCPs, and best practice interventions.
* Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
* A commitment to inclusive education and supporting students with diverse needs.
* A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
