We’re looking for an experienced Senior Payroll Consultant to join our team in Melbourne. This role requires a payroll expert who can immediately step in to solve critical business problems for our clients while aligning with our core mission and goals.
As a senior member of the team, you will play a key role in payroll transformation, working closely with clients and stakeholders to improve payroll processes, ensure compliance is being met and drive efficiencies. You will also mentor and support junior team members, encouraging a culture of learning and collaboration.

Responsibilities
1. Payroll Management & Transformation : Lead Payroll Pulse Checks, identifying inefficiencies and recommending process improvements. Support medium and large HCM & HRIS system implementations, migrations, and automation projects. Ensure compliance with payroll regulations while optimising efficiencies across the people and payroll space.
2. Client Facing Consulting : Provide expert payroll advice, ensuring clients meet compliance and best practice standards. Build strong client relationships and deliver tailored payroll solutions. Conduct payroll audits, system reviews, and provide recommendations for improvements.
3. Critical Problem Solving : Troubleshoot and support resolving urgent payroll issues for clients with minimal disruption. Proactively identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies. Work closely with stakeholders to implement solutions that improve payroll performance.
4. Legislation & Compliance : Stay updated on Australian payroll legislation, tax regulations, and industry changes. Ensure clients are compliant with reporting and regulatory obligations. Educate and guide clients on new legislative updates and their impacts.
5. Work Ethic : Take full ownership of client projects and deliver solutions with minimal supervision. Prioritise tasks efficiently to manage multiple payroll projects at once. Adapt to changing client needs while maintaining high-quality service delivery.
6. Collaboration & Leadership : Mentor and support junior team members in developing their payroll expertise. Foster a culture of knowledge-sharing and continuous learning. Contribute to team discussions and strategic payroll planning.
7. Process Improvement : Identify opportunities to streamline processes and increase automation. Develop and implement payroll best practices for efficiency gains. Evaluate payroll technology and recommend system enhancements.
8. Client Travel (As Required) : Occasionally travel to client sites to provide hands-on payroll consulting. Work closely with clients on-site where required from time to time to resolve complex payroll issues. Provide in-person training and support as needed.
Qualifications
* 10+ years of experience in payroll consulting, payroll management or payroll transformation
* Bachelor degree in HR, Finance, Business or related field (preferred but not essential)
* Experience working with multiple payroll systems (eg, Dayforce, UKG, Oracle, SAP etc)
* Knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, tax regulations and compliance requirements
* Proven track record in payroll system implementations, process improvements and automation
* Previous experience in client facing consulting roles or management multi client payroll operations
* Flexibility to travel to client sites when required
* Strong analytical and problem solving skills to troubleshoot payroll complexities
* Client centric mindset with a human first approach to payroll solutions
* Ability to work autonomously and take initiative in solving payroll issues
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
* Ability to mentor and support junior team members in their career growth
