Job Title: Service & Maintenance Engineer, Fire
Scope of Role: You are often one of the first points of contact between the business and our client. You have excellent written and oral communication skills and have good technical knowledge across the fire industry. Acting as an ambassador to position the company's reputation as a leading and respected employer.
Location: National role, UK
Reporting relationships: Internal/external customers
Reports to: Regional Service Manager Scutum UK. The post holder will be expected to engage with colleagues and clients as well as forming a strong business/resource relationship across the wider business.
Key Accountabilities
1. Service and maintain systems in accordance with British Standards and BAFE SP201 and SP203.
2. Attend reactive and preventative maintenance of fire detection and alarm and gas suppression systems.
3. Actively support at all times, company policy and best practice.
4. Carry out commissioning of additional devices to existing systems.
5. Support other departments where required from Projects to Sales.
6. Taking an active part in the out of hours on-call rota.
7. Expectation of overtime and out of hours working.
8. Positive, self-motivated, and proactive, with a ‘can do’ attitude.
9. The ability to operate effectively under pressure to rapidly changing circumstances.
10. Well organised team player.
11. To ensure that the client is satisfied in all aspects of the service prior to leaving site.
12. Project a high level of quality customer services at all times.
13. To ensure that the relevant documentation is fully completed in an accurate and timely manner – including instructions, timesheets, mileage reports, work reports, service reports and expense claims.
14. To follow Health & Safety procedures set out by the company in order to ensure the safety of you, your colleagues and others. Also, adhere to the Company Health and Safety policy.
15. Adhere to company rules and ensure compliance to ISO:9001:2015 & ISO 14001:2004.
Candidate Profile
Educational Requirements/Qualifications:
1. GENT, Advanced, Siemens, Morley, Kentec, Siemens, Eaton, Notifier, Ziton, IFAX Fire Alarm systems knowledge is desirable.
2. ATEX.
3. Knowledge and understanding of various computer-based Graphical User Interfaces.
4. Knowledge of CompEx systems is desirable but not a pre-requisite.
5. VESDA & Other Aspirating manufacturers is desirable.
6. Electrical background.
7. ICEL accreditation of emergency lighting.
8. FIA F-Gas certification.
9. ECS/CSCS card required.
10. Valid Asbestos UKATA certificate - desirable.
11. Ideally you will have FIA’s Units 1, 4 & 5 qualifications (or equivalent Level 3 Qualification) and be experienced with both addressable and conventional systems as you will be required to undertake routine service and reactive works to various fire alarm systems across the UK.
12. Proven knowledge and FIA certificated competencies (or adequate similar training) are essential and a thorough understanding of relevant British Standards, in particular clauses relating to servicing, maintenance, and commissioning.
Experience:
1. Must have a good awareness of industry codes and standards.
2. Work within the guidelines and processes as set out by the company.
3. You must have at least 5 years’ experience in the fire industry.
4. Able to demonstrate good technical knowledge in the following disciplines: Fire Alarm, PAVA, Emergency Lighting, Nurse Call and Disabled Refuge Systems.
5. Ability to fault find accurately.
6. Competent using technology such as laptops, measuring devices, smart phones etc.
7. Competent IT skills in the use of Microsoft office software such as Word and Excel as this is required for completion of reports, timesheets, asset registers etc.
8. Good customer service skills as you will be dealing with high-end clients on a day-to-day basis.
Additional
Your normal days and hours of work are Monday to Friday from 8.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m, on site times. You will be expected to keep your working hours flexible and additional hours of work may be required as business circumstances dictate. This could include additional working hours during the week, nighttime, and weekend working.
You will be required to provide out of hours on-call support on a call-out rota system. These hours will be organised according to a rota which the Company will notify you on a monthly basis and any alterations as they happen on an ad hoc basis, i.e. for Holiday cover. When on-call you will be entitled to receive a standby allowance payment at a rate notified to you by the Company.
The Company will supply you with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at the Company's expense.
You will be provided with a mobile phone, laptop, and PDA to carry out your role and appropriate test equipment suitable for the role.
You will be provided with a company van or car therefore require a full UK licence.
