About the role
We seek a highly proactive individual to lead, manage and implement the £24M Q-BIOMED business development strategy, working with the Directors, Management Committee and Advisory Board for this major UK national programme.
The Senior Business Development Manager role forms part of the Q-BIOMED Strategic Operations Team and is required to work closely and build excellent relationships with the Senior Hub Manager and Senior Communications Manager, to maximise Hub impact. The main purpose of the job is to lead, manage and implement the £24M Q-BIOMED business development strategy, including the £3M Accelerator fund. This includes identifying business opportunities and engaging with a broad range of clinical and industry partners, and acting as an ambassador for the Hub to industry, policy makers, venture funds and business angel networks as well as end-user stakeholders.
The postholder will proactively identify and manage Hub IP, collaborating with and across the technology transfer offices of the Hub academic partner institutions, supporting licensing, new industry partnerships and spin-outs, and securing major translational funding. The job will involve travel to partners, relevant events and external stakeholders. The role is based at the London Centre for Nanotechnology and the Faculty of Engineering Science at UCL and reports to Professor Morton Q-BIOMED (Co-Director) and the Vice-Dean for Enterprise, UCL Faculty of Engineering Science. The role is funded for five years until November .
About you
Applicants should have a post-graduate qualification in science, or equivalent professional experience. They should have a track record of working in, or with, higher education in senior roles with research, business development and budget responsibility. They should also have significant experience working with one or more of the enabling technologies relevant to quantum and disease diagnosis or interventions.
They will have demonstrable experience of addressing the technical and business challenges associated with bringing new technologies to the market and of building partnerships between business and the research base.
Outstanding interpersonal and influencing skills and the ability and confidence to liaise with staff and external individuals at any level of seniority are essential, as is the ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders across academia, the public sector and the private sector. The role requires the ability to work under pressure without supervision, prioritise workloads to meet conflicting deadlines and work with colleagues in a wide variety of contexts.
What we offer
The appointment at Grade 9 will be at a salary of £66, - £72, per annum inclusive of £4, London Allowance, reflecting the seniority of the role and outstanding experience of the applicant.
