Carer Assistant (Domiciliary)
Home care workers provide services to people within their homes who require help with personal care and activities of daily living support such as bathing and dressing. Home care workers may also provide help with tasks such as preparing meals, light housekeeping, and laundry. Workers in this group may reside with those in their care.
Job purpose: To assist in the provision of care and work as part of the team to achieve required standards. To ensure Service Users retain their dignity and individuality. To be involved in the general activities of the Care Service. To maintain a safe environment within the service users' home.
Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications Required:
1. Genuine interest in working with the relevant service users group
2. Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
3. Team player
4. Ability to work on own initiative
Desired:
1. Previous experience of working with the relevant Service User group
Main responsibilities:
1. Ensure the highest possible levels of care are maintained by supporting and assisting service users through the implementation of their tailored care plan, where applicable the following should be adhered to:
2. Assist Service Users (People Experiencing Care) in all aspects of their care needs, e.g. physical, emotional and spiritual. Provide supervision and attention when needed, ensuring service users retain their comfort and dignity
3. Pay particular attention to assisting Service Users who have limited mobility, or physical, learning difficulties making the best use of aids provided
4. Closely monitor Service Users who may be confused and/or who have behavioural problems
5. Observe care planning needs for Service Users and complete daily records as instructed and in line with the Company’s policies and procedures
6. Assist in framework of social activities by interacting with Service Users and helping them continue with hobbies and activities
Communication
1. Report any changes in Service Users physical or emotional condition to the Service Manager or Person in Charge as applicable
2. Provide comfort and company on a one to one basis for service users
3. Participate in Staff and Service User meetings as required
Training and Development
1. Maintain and improve professional knowledge and competence.
2. Attend mandatory training days/course, on or off site as and when required
3. Participate in relevant SVQ training to achieve required qualifications
Health & Safety
1. Report immediately to the Service Manager or Person in Charge any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a Service Users, colleague, self or another
2. Promote safe working practice while on duty
General
1. Ensure that all information of confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged to third parties
2. Notify the Service Manager or Person in Charge as soon as possible of your inability to report for duty and also on your return to work from all periods of absence
3. Promote and ensure the good reputation of the Company
4. Ensure the security of the Service User’s Home is maintained at all times
5. Adhere to all Company policies and procedures within the defined timescales
6. Ensure all equipment is clean and well maintained
7. Carry out any other tasks that may be reasonably assigned to you
