The Paediatric Service is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed full-time, permanent Consultant Community Paediatrician with a Neurodisability interest to complement our existing team. The Trust is committed to working in partnership with colleagues in the Tees Valley Integrated Care Partnership and wider North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care System. As such, the team will work as part of a wider network at times to strengthen care pathways and support ongoing workforce development.

The post holder will share clinical responsibility right across the Trust including University Hospital of Hartlepool. As a senior employee of the Trust, the post holder will work in close co-operation with and support other clinical/medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high-quality health care to patients.
The Paediatric service is committed to developing service delivery across the Tees Valley and wider integrated care system and service roles may actively support network developments.
The post is for 10 programmed activities, but candidates considering part-time opportunities will be considered.
The post does not include any acute paediatric on-call duties; however, consideration will be given to candidates who would be interested in being part of the acute paediatric team.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to:
1. Work with a dedicated team of community and developmental paediatric Consultants to deliver holistic and multi-disciplinary care to children with developmental disorders and complex health needs in the locality.
2. Work alongside Specialist Community Nurses and paediatric therapists.
3. Support services for Looked After Children by undertaking Initial Health assessments, as required.
4. Contribute to the assessment of acute child protection referrals for physical injuries with the wider team of Consultant Paediatricians on a rota basis (Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays).
5. Liaise with colleagues in Primary Care, Education (including the provision of health advice for the Special Education Needs and Disability assessment process), and Social Services in the delivery of care.
6. Contribute to service development, departmental clinical governance, and annual appraisals towards revalidation with the GMC.
7. Participate in postgraduate training within the clinical environment.

Job responsibilities
The post will have the following components:
1. Regular outpatient clinics for children referred for neuro-developmental concerns, including children with complex neuro-disabilities.
2. Multi-agency liaison and district admin to facilitate the complex Neurodisability work.
3. Out-patient clinics for Initial Health assessments for Looked After Children, as required.
4. Assessment of acute child protection referrals for physical injuries on a rota basis with other colleagues.
5. Departmental governance and teaching activities, including clinical supervision of paediatric trainees.
6. The Consultant will assume a direct clinical role within the Department, sharing all facilities and workload equally with the present Consultants.
7. The post holder will have continuing responsibility for the development of the Department.
8. The post holder will undertake administrative duties associated with the running of their clinical work.
9. The post holder will be expected to take full part in professional and governance activities including training and quality assessment activities.
10. There will also be involvement in administrative duties within the Directorate as required within the responsibilities of this post.
Person Specification
Qualification and experience
* Fully registered with GMC.
* Applicant must produce evidence that he/she is either on the UK specialist registrar or within 6 months of CCT date, and is expected to achieve a CCT.
* Ability to offer expert opinion on a range of problems, both elective and emergency within the specialty.
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
* Experience with Child Protection.
* Experience and commitment to clinical audit.
* Good understanding of NHS, Social Services, educational Services, knowledge and understanding of national guidance and legislation in relation to safeguarding children.
* Competent to work under pressure.
* APLS/EPLS/NLS.
* Teaching Experience.
* MRCPCH or similar.
* Training relating to Paediatric specialist area of role.
* Experience working independently at Consultant Level.
* Experience in independently managing children with complex needs.
* Training/experience in NHS management.
* Experience in managing and leading specialist unit, directorate teams, and working parties as appropriate.
* Educational supervision training.
* Formal training in teaching.
* Publications in peer-reviewed journals.
* Previous research experience.
* Quality improvement project relating to General Paediatrics.

£105,504 to £139,882 a year pro rata, per annum (Salary is dependent on experience).
