Project outline
The MRC National Mouse Genetics Network (NMGN) is a recent major new investment to support the enhancement of mouse research and its alignment with human clinical studies across a range of human diseases. The NMGN programme requires a scalable data sharing platform focused on the scientific priorities of the network.
The data platform and outward facing data portal will support the capture, sharing and reuse of datasets generated by > 70 research groups across the NMGN. The platform will be delivered by a Data Science Team working in collaboration across the UK data management community.
Two RSE positions are available within this team. All posts will involve collaborating widely across the UK preclinical modelling and data management communities, and will entail working in tandem with a software engineering and data management team based at the Mary Lyon Centre in Oxford.
Successful applicants will join an established highly collaborative and interdisciplinary team of software engineers, computer scientists, biologists and mathematicians, and will relish bringing these skills to bear in a highly dynamic and collaborative environment.
Essential criteria:
* A PhD or Masters degree in bioinformatics, computational biology or a related discipline, OR an undergraduate degree in computer science with substantial experience developing substantial bodies of code.
* Significant experience in front end/or back end development.
* Excellent communication skills and an ability to work in inter-disciplinary research environment.
* A desire to see the output of their work translated into real-world impact.
* Knowledge of bioinformatics and computational biology would convey a substantial advantage, but is not a prerequisite.
