SYR is working with a client who is the leading manufacturer and supplier of advanced composite materials (kitted core materials, prepregs, formulated products), manufacturing solutions (tooling automation), as well as composite structural engineering services.
The Composite Engineering department for this client is a part of the Marine and Industrial Business Unit of the Group and has offices in the UK, France, and New Zealand.
Providing composite engineering services to designers and manufacturers, the department works alongside long-standing customers in various markets such as Marine, Transportation, Architecture, and Renewable Energy.
Purpose of the Department Function
The successful candidate will work with the engineering team carrying out engineering of projects for composite structures to the highest quality standard and within timescales and budget targets. The successful candidate will be based in their offices in Newport, Isle of Wight, UK. (Hybrid working option available)
Description of the Role:
The role will involve carrying out engineering on a wide range of projects using analytical and design skills in collaboration with a project team. You will plan and manage engineering projects as well as work with customers and end users to ensure deliverables meet customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Planning, project management, and client liaison on engineering projects under the supervision of a more experienced engineer.
2. Conceptual structural design and detailed design and analysis of composite engineering projects under the supervision of a more experienced engineer.
3. Assist in the development of innovative and efficient engineering solutions and working methods.
4. Develop own technical capability and broaden engineering knowledge across different markets.
5. Develop project, commercial, and personnel management skills.
Skills and Experience
1. Bachelors or Masters Degree in Engineering, Material Science, or related field.
2. Professional Experience of 2-3 years in either a design office or a composite manufacturing firm ideally.
3. Knowledge and experience of working with structural composite materials and building methods.
4. Knowledge of Rhino and/or SolidWorks (or other 3-D CAD Packages) advantageous.
5. Knowledge of Altair Hyperworks and experience of Finite Element Analysis advantageous.
6. Knowledge of marine and industrial composite structures would be an advantage.
7. Ability to work as a constructive member of a team and have a strong sense of responsibility.
8. Proven ability to deliver results within timelines and a high level of attention to detail.
9. Fluent in English, both speaking and writing skills - essential.
10. Driven and motivated to achieve.
