Advanced Clinical Pharmacist - Cardiology (XR08)
We are looking for a motivated, experienced, and enthusiastic pharmacist to join our innovative cardiology service at Leeds Teaching Hospitals on a 12-month fixed-term contract.
This is an exciting opportunity to develop in-depth cardiovascular knowledge at a specialist tertiary centre and be a core part of a supportive and experienced team with an emphasis on patient care.
Main Duties of the Job
Your role will deliver high-quality clinical pharmacy service to wards including a busy cardiology admissions ward, a complex long-stay ward, and cardiac surgery. Advanced Clinical Pharmacists are also expected to fulfil core pharmacy commitments as part of the wider team to deliver equitable, excellent care and experience to all patients in the trust, and support training of junior medical and pharmacy colleagues.
There are numerous possibilities for development and learning from the cardiology innovative outpatient pharmacy team. These include specialist lipid management clinics, heart failure services, post-myocardial infarction, and Cardio-Renal-Metabolic clinics.
You will further develop high-level skills, such as undertaking D&T applications, responding to NICE Therapy Appraisals, reviewing clinical trials, and answering Advice and Guidance queries from primary care.

Job Responsibilities
Leads the highly specialised clinical pharmacy service to patients and the multidisciplinary team within a given clinical speciality. Ensures medicines are used appropriately, safely, and cost-effectively in accordance with Trust policy, standard operating procedures, and medicine legislation. The postholder is expected to determine how the outcomes are best achieved in specific circumstances.
Manage other pharmacists providing specialised clinical pharmacy service within own clinical speciality depending on size of area.
Works directly and regularly with consultants, senior nursing staff, and managers within the clinical speciality. Monitors and interprets expenditure on medicines within own clinical speciality. Provides the Directorate with regular reports to assist in the safe use of medicines, the management of the drug budget, and clinical governance issues. The report also includes risk management such as the recording of significant clinical interventions and near misses.
Supervise, along with other members of their multidisciplinary team, the development and implementation of treatment protocols and guidelines for the use of drugs within the clinical area.
Responsible for training pharmacists and other healthcare professionals on aspects of drug use within the clinical area.
Provides a minimum of at least one 4-hour session of service cover in the dispensary or aseptic dispensary each week. Participates in evening, weekend, and bank holiday rota and where appropriate, out of hours services.
To act as the Responsible Pharmacist in line with local procedures.

Qualifications
* Registrant of the GPhC
* Postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent
* Non-medical prescriber status

* Ability to demonstrate foundation level competencies in all 6 domains of the Advanced to Consultant Level Framework (ACLF)
* IT skills - accomplished use of Microsoft Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, Word
Other Criteria
* Able to fulfil Occupational Health requirements for the post (with reasonable adjustments if necessary), including clearance on blood-borne viruses in compliance with Trust Policy
