Job Description:
Department: Design Engineering
Reports to: Engineering Manager/Senior Engineer
Job family, track and Level: Engineering and Technical, Specialist and Level 3
Need: Autodash Inventor, Mechanical Design Experience & SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
Accountability
Roles at this level apply their technical expertise when carrying out a range of project activities to support the development and implementation of engineering/technical solutions. They are expected to deliver work to defined standards of quality, accuracy, and timeliness, supporting the team to develop and deliver required outputs. Roles may be either individual contributors, acting as lead technicians or engineers, or they may act as supervisors with limited line management responsibility for technicians and/or apprentices.

* Carry out the function of Mechanical Design Engineer including but not limited to:
o Collaborating across Engineering Functions, including Electrical and Manufacturing
o Ensuring design solutions are tolerant of the environment in which they operate
o Identifying opportunities to reduce costs in design, materials used, and manufacturing techniques
o Working effectively across the Matrix and delivering bottom-line performance collaboratively
o Challenging the status quo and bringing new ideas to improve engineering quality, productivity, and timeliness of delivery
o Working to standards, processes & procedures, ensuring rigor, resilience, and continuous improvement in design solutions, meeting all regulatory requirements, conforming to specifications, quality, and certification requirements
o Designing products that are safe and meet all statutory requirements
o Producing, amending, and checking drawings and Items lists and releasing them for use by other departments in line with department processes
o Demonstrating flair and novel solutions to design problems using the latest technologies and having input to design processes to reduce project/product cost and time to market
Tasks:
* Carry out drawing modifications and amendments as required
* Assist with potential quality issues through production
* Hold DFMA's with manufacturing and production
* Design to cost, manufacture, and assembly, with knowledge of drawing systems and product structures
* Control product, build standard, drawing, and document configuration control
* Assist purchasing with technical queries and release advance purchase requisitions
* Resolve design queries and Inspection reports, including technical solutions to warranty issues
Technical Competencies:
* Proficient with Autodesk Inventor
* Ideally proficient with Windchill PLM with experience in populating Part attributes, building Part structures, raising and completing Change Requests, Change Notices, and Change Tasks
* Good IT skills, including Word and Excel
Education:
* Essential to be qualified to degree level in Engineering or Apprenticeship with sufficient experience in the field
* Desirable to have made progress towards achieving Chartered status or equivalent professional accreditation
Experience:
* Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with energy and enthusiasm to all levels within and outside the business
* The ability to apply skills and knowledge across a wide and diverse range of projects
* Sound understanding of product safety and standards
* Experience working to requirements
* Broad understanding of manufacturing techniques including sheet metal fabrication, riveting, bonding, and welding
* Good communication skills
* Ability to work accurately and at pace
* Ability to provide technical advice/challenge based on facts and information
* Demonstrated effectiveness in using professional or technical expertise to make decisions and provide guidance to colleagues
* Ability to communicate/present complex information concisely to a non-technical audience
* Meticulous attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
