About the role
Halliford School is seeking to appoint a Peripatetic Piano Teacher to join a team of experienced, friendly and supportive Visiting Music Teachers in delivering high quality tuition to individuals and / or groups as required by the Director of Music.
Working within our well-resourced and flourishing department, the successful candidate will be experienced in teaching piano to students of all abilities. They will assist students in preparations for performances, examinations and auditions as appropriate.
Candidates will need to demonstrate expertise within their field with proven ability as a performer and a teacher. They will be willing to dedicate time to support the Music Department through assistance in concerts, open days or other public events from time to time.
and lines of responsibility
* To deliver 5 high quality 40 minute lessons to students aged from 11 - 18 years on a weekly basis from total beginners to Diploma level as appropriate
* To tailor learning to suit the standard and requirements of the individual whether through a formal grading system or otherwise
* To prepare students for performances or auditions as appropriate
* To support and promote Music within Halliford School
* To advise, encourage and recommend students to participate in relevant extra-curricular opportunities
* To participate in performances with students at concerts, church services and recitals
* To communicate efficiently with parents, students and relevant staff
* To offer advice to parents with regards to purchase of music or instruments
* To inspire and encourage a lifelong love of Music whether for professional or leisure purposes
* To monitor and record attendance and report on progress using written registers and to feedback to the Coordinator for Instrumental Tuition as appropriate
* To ensure that lesson timetables are kept up to date, prepared in advance and are neatly presented
* To ensure students record their lesson times in their diaries
* To complete formal electronic reports by deadline for each student on a yearly basis
* To be aware of individual student requirements with regard to any specific needs
* To build strong and positive relations with parents as well as students
* To contribute to the extra-curricular Music programme if required
* To practice and uphold the ethos of Halliford School
* To attend any relevant meeting deemed appropriate to the post
Conditions of Engagement
The post-holder must uphold the School’s policy in respect of all matters related to Safeguarding and Child Protection. The post-holder is required to support and encourage the School’s ethos and its objectives, policies and procedures as agreed by the Headmaster and Governing Body.
The successful applicant will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check. Peripatetic staff must attend all necessary child protection training, including safeguarding training at INSET day, and participate fully in activities which keep the school compliant with statutory child protection and safeguarding guidelines issued.
