SEN Teaching Assistant

Equitas is proud to be working with a dedicated Special Educational Needs (SEN) school that provides tailored education and support to students with a range of needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties, Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), and other complex needs. The Role:
Equitas is seeking a compassionate and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join a dedicated team. You will play a crucial role in supporting students with diverse learning needs, ensuring they have access to a high-quality education in a safe and supportive setting.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEN, adapting teaching methods to meet individual learning needs.
2. Assist the class teacher in delivering tailored learning activities and interventions.
3. Support students with communication, social skills, and emotional regulation.
4. Use de-escalation strategies and behaviour management techniques to support students with SEMH needs.
5. Work closely with the SENCO, therapists, and other staff to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies.
6. Assist with personal care tasks where necessary, ensuring students' dignity and comfort.
7. Create a positive, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment.
8. Monitor and record students' progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents where required.
Requirements:
1. Previous experience working in an SEN setting is essential.
2. Understanding of various SEN needs, including Autism, ADHD, and SEMH.
3. Experience using alternative communication methods (e.g., PECS, Makaton) is desirable.
4. Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
5. A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to supporting students.
6. Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification) are desirable but not essential.
7. An enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
