Founded by a serial founder, James Terry (ex-founder of Dishpatch, sold to Waitrose), Planks is positioned to reshape the UK's £3.1bn timber industry and we're excited you're considering to join us on the journey.
About the Role:
We're looking for a talented Production Assistant (Carpenter) to keep our workshop running smoothly and our products top-notch. You’ll be working with quality hardwoods to craft everything from tabletops to shelving, using your skills in planing, cutting, and joinery to ensure each piece meets our high standards. If you love getting stuck into woodwork, want to make an impact and have serious ownership over your work, this is the role for you.
What You’ll Be Doing:
* Wood Preparation: Planing, trimming, ripping, and sanding hardwood planks to our exacting standards.
* Joinery and Assembly: Completing simple glue joint joinery for products like tabletops.
* Finishing: Applying finishes, stains, and treatments to make each piece look its best.
* Order Prep and Packaging: Preparing, packaging, and labelling orders for dispatch with care.
* Workshop Maintenance: Keeping the workshop tidy, maintaining tools, and tracking supplies.
* Improving Operations: Working with the founder on ways to keep things running smoothly and improve workflows.
What You’ll Need:
* Hands-on experience and/or qualifications in woodworking and carpentry.
* Familiarity with workshop tools (planers, table & mitre saws, handheld tools) and a strong eye for detail.
* Smart, independent thinking, common sense and comfort with workshop environments.
* Experience in production environments with solo or significant responsibility.
Compensation:
This role is flexible and initially part time, at 2-3 days per week, with the option to increase up to 5 days in January 2025. Pay will be based on experience, but should be around £20-25 per hour.
Hours and days are flexible, and can be arranged week to week or on a schedule.
To Apply:
Please send us your CV, a portfolio or examples of your previous work and a short note about why you’re interested in the role.
