We are looking for a Nights Support Worker to join our team who aligns with our ethos that everyone has a personal best. Our work in the UK embraces many specialist services including adult mental health, acquired brain injury, children’s specialist education, children’s residential services and fostering services.
The Forum School and Residential Home is a 52-week residential specialist school in Dorset providing quality therapeutic care and education for young people with Autism, severe learning difficulties, challenging behaviour and complex needs.
The Forum School is currently working towards reshaping the way in which specialists support young people into adulthood and seeks to prepare them for possible employment and lifelong fulfilment.
Purpose of the role
The role of the Nights Support Worker is to play an active part in supporting young people who have Autism to live fun-filled, meaningful lives. This is achieved by people with a passion for providing our young people with a supportive, family environment within our the on-site homes. Our team help our young people to overcome barriers that have previously prevented them from building relationships with peers and adults, making progress in life and finding a place of significance in their community.
The caring role requires the ability to support our young people by providing physical and emotional care should it be required during the waking night. Using a highly therapeutic approach aligned with the multidisciplinary teams across The Forum School, our Nights Support Workers provide a happy, secure, caring and effective environment in support of the waking day curriculum aims.
Night Support Work is a vital role that supports all that can be achieved throughout the waking day. This includes working directly with the young people at times but also working behind the scenes completing essential tasks such as helping to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness in the home and domestic tasks such as ensuring the young people’s laundry is done. Being able to work closely within a team and independently are key criteria for being successful in this role.

As a Night Support Worker you will:
1. Supervise and support young people in their Forum School home if they wake during the night and support with their morning routines
2. Support young people with any prescribed emergency medication.
3. Build and maintain positive professional relationships with staff and young people
4. Encourage and motivate young people to wake and prepare for their day
5. Ability to demonstrate good communication skills including the ability to clarify and explain instructions clearly.
6. Support young people’s emotional and physical wellbeing.
7. Produce legible, accurate and prompt written reports/records
8. To help young people grow in their own sense of confidence and identity.
