We have an exciting opportunity for a 2nd Line Database Administrator to join our Technology team.
The 2nd Line Database Administrator is responsible for the delivery and continued support of the key BAU functions as well as maintaining and administering the databases and associated environments. This includes production, DR and test systems.
You’ll be responsible for supporting regular maintenance across the environments, ensuring that preventative maintenance tasks are completed safely, on time and in line with established procedures.
In addition to the preventative maintenance tasks, 2nd Line support will be available to support queries and investigate system issues across the environments as well as responsible for supporting incident management and problem resolutions.
You’ll also provide subject matter expertise to the change function, supporting projects from shaping through to closure. They will also assist the DBA Lead in implementing continuous improvements across the team and fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and upskilling others.

The Role
* Ensure that BAU actions are completed accurately, correctly and on time.
* Contribute towards the day-to-day support and administration of the databases and associated environments including live, DR and test environments.
* Ensure environments are appropriately patched and secure.
* Provide 2nd line support, ensuring that agreed support SLAs are met.
* Support the incident management process, problem management and implementation of changes.
* Support the management of risks and issues.
* Provide SME knowledge to the business.
* Engage with third party support contacts when required to support problem resolution.
* Undertake regular housekeeping of the environments to ensure they perform to their optimal levels.
* Carry out refreshes of the test databases in accordance with testing/project requirements.
* Undertake system and database administration duties as required, including out of hours tasks where required.
* Carry out regular disaster recovery activities with other Technology teams.
* To understand and be aware of the risk and control environment in your area of the business and adhere to processes, procedures, and policies in order to minimise risks.
* Demonstrate a commitment to a supportive and collaborative culture which promotes strong working relationships across CITO teams and the wider business.
* Ensuring all activities are undertaken in consideration of and in line with Technology and CBS Strategies
* Utilise existing tooling for the effective management of tasks and queries, and documentation.
* Input into and maintain a standard library of documentation and procedures.
* Out of hours on-call for critical systems will be a requirement for this role in-line with the Working Practice Charter and will attract an additional allowance.
* To be a point of escalation for 1st Line support on all workstream matters.
* To carry out any other reasonable additional duties.
About You
We’re looking for someone with experience engaging with third party suppliers to resolve issues and using ITIL processes including incident, problem, and event management.
You’ll have experience in operational 24x7 support, ideally using Agile methodologies and working in change projects in a regulated sector.
Knowledge preferred but not all essential includes:
* Understanding of database technologies and administration including Oracle 12 & 19c.
* Knowledge of database security, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring tools and standards.
* Understanding of UNIX administration and scripting including Solaris 11.3/11.4.
* Knowledge of SQL, PL/SQL, batch scripting etc.
* Understanding in Middleware applications e.g. Weblogic, Oracle Fusion Middleware.
* Knowledge or experience of risk frameworks is beneficial.
Qualifications
* ITIL v4 Certification is advantageous.
* Degree within Computer Science or other IT related disciplines preferred but not essential.
