Founded in 1646, Reading Blue Coat is a leading independent day school of circa 800 pupils from ages 11 to 18. The School is located on a beautiful 46-acre campus in the village of Sonning, just outside Reading.
The School employs more than 200 staff, of whom 50% are academic staff, and provides a stimulating, friendly and supportive atmosphere in which each pupil can realise his or her full intellectual, physical, and creative potential.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and inspiring Design Technology teacher to join us in this excellent department from September 2025. You will teach at all stages of the School including the AQA Design Technology GCSE course and the AQA Product Design A Level syllabus. Specialism in textiles is highly desirable.
The department has a reputation for excellence in teaching and learning and a record of examination success. During summer 2024, 100% of candidates achieved A* to B at A Level, whilst 71% of students gained at least a grade 7 at GCSE level. Design and Technology is very well resourced and popular at the School.
As a member of the department you will be based in our new state-of-the-art Design Technology Centre, fitted with a metalwork shop, a polymer workshop (including a fleet of 3D printers, a CNC machine and a laser cutter), a woodwork shop and our 21st Century library, research and design facility. Textiles technology projects will be introduced to Years 7 to 9 in 2025. New equipment will be purchased to facilitate these projects which will be taught in a subject specific space.
You will contribute to the co-curricular offerings of the departments and the wider life of the School, to which your energy, warmth and pastoral instincts will lend themselves. It is likely that you will hold a degree in a strongly related discipline. Applications are welcome from ECTs and those completing their PGCE qualification.
Reading Blue Coat offers an exceptional working environment and an attractive rewards package, including excellent benefits such as a pension scheme; free meals; extensive staff discounts; tax saving cycle to work and car leasing schemes; free sports and leisure facilities; Employee Assistance Programme; and a strong commitment to professional development.
