Core Purpose:
To assist the Deputy Headteacher (Standards and Student Welfare) in providing leadership of pastoral care and securing our continued success and improvement, ensuring high quality support and provision, to enable all students to achieve exceptionally well.
Core Leadership Responsibilities:
* To be a DSL
* To provide an inspirational role model for staff and students
* To effectively communicate and demonstrate the core values of the school
* To develop an ethos of succeeding together for students and staff
* To contribute to strategic improvement planning, implementation and evaluation
* Be accountable for aspects of the school improvement plan and school self-evaluation including reporting to Governors as required
* To develop the standards of whole school behaviour, ethos and wellbeing
* To provide pastoral and disciplinary support both inside and outside the classroom, throughout the school day
* To work with, support and line manage identified pastoral staff and external support agencies, including the coordination of use of outside agencies in school and off-site direction (OSD)
* To monitor and evaluate classroom practice, student progress and behaviour
* Collaborate with partners to develop system wide improvements including police and behaviour support services
* To participate in all core leadership meetings
Strategic responsibilities of this role:
* To be a DSL and, with support from the Deputy Headteacher (Standards and Student Welfare), be a point of contact for outside agency referral
* As part of the Behaviour, Ethos and Culture Team (BEC), have strategic responsibility for the pastoral care of students that enables them to achieve and succeed
* Strategic leadership of identified pastoral staff including those responsible for inclusion in its broadest sense
* Development of the school culture through embedding the school values
* Strategic leadership of Inclusion and children being able to access a full and supportive education at Moseley School, including leading and managing our envisioned onsite Alternative Curriculum provision.
* Strategic leadership and co-ordination of best practice approaches so the quality of education for all children, including those with SEND, is efficient, effective and meaningful in its core purpose of enabling all adults and children to succeed together.
* School liaison with outside agencies, including but not limited to, engagement with the South Area Network (SAN) to negotiate student placements (OSD), Behaviour Services, Colleges, BCC exclusions team, Bouncing Statistics, School Police Liaison Officers, Counselling services, and specialist providers.
* Design and delivery of support and training for staff in areas such as student welfare and inclusion
* Oversight of interventions and inclusion strategies including those linked to nurture, Children in Care (CiC), those on alternative timetables and those requiring mental health support
* Oversight of exclusions, managed moves and alternative provision, including through the SAN and out of network when required
* To lead assemblies to year groups or other groups of students as necessary
* To contribute to the oversight of tutor time and its quality assurance

* Promote the values and aims of the school
* Follow all relevant school policies
* To be aware of, and assume the appropriate level of responsibility for, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and to report any concerns in accordance with the school’s safeguarding policies
* Create and maintain effective partnerships with parents and carers
* Treat students, parents and colleagues fairly, equitably and with dignity and respect
* To comply with the school’s Health & Safety policy and statutory requirements
