Training is essential to ensure patients are safe when part of an early phase clinical trials. The LCRF provides a comprehensive training programme to all staff to make sure all our patients are cared for safely and to the highest standards. We learn from other CRFs nationally to ensure all team members have access to a thorough package of training and development so they can expertly deliver the innovative clinical trials.
The role of the NIHR Lancashire CRF (LCRF) Research Nurse is to set-up, deliver clinical trials, in a variety of disease areas, and support, and be an advocate, for patients that are part of these trials. Following a strict protocol this involves carrying out a variety of clinical procedures, collecting clinical data and inputting this into various electronic systems.
Working with colleagues within the LCRF team, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Lancashire and South Cumbria NHD Foundation Trust and external organisation the LCRF research nurse will provide strong leadership to implement Good Clinical Practice (GCP) to all aspects of trial set-up and delivery. They will need to have strong communication skills, both verbally and written, to ensure patients are cared for to the highest of standards and for the effective set-up and delivery of LCRF clinical trials. Communicating with a variety of experts internally and externally is a key element of the role.
The role will require evening, night, and weekend work to support the growing LCRF portfolio of early phase clinical trials.
Training is a key to the delivery of these complex trials. The role requires staff to actively participate in all aspects of training and disseminate key information to colleagues and students.
