We have an exciting opportunity for a Matron to join the Urgent Care Division at the Countess of Chester Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
We are currently seeking a highly motivated professional nurse to undertake the role of Matron. You will have an extensive skill set in nursing management and leadership and be an effective communicator. You will be a positive role model and hold responsibility to support the developments of Clinical Governance and Continuous Service Improvement, modernise patient services and ensure the active involvement of patients and carers in the way services are developed, delivered and evaluated.
Main duties of the job
1. Ensure efficient and effective use of resources in a manner consistent with organisational objectives and policies, ensuring that resources are realistic, justified and of clear benefit to the organisation.
2. Responsible for identifying any actual or potential deviation from budgets and are to work with the budget holder or manager to find effective ways of handling it.
3. All employees of the Trust have the responsibility to comply with the Trust's Infection Prevention and Control policies and procedures at all times. Strict adherence to effective hand hygiene is essential.
About us
The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:
* The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds
* Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility
* Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.
The Trust employs over 6258 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 407,000. This includes 357,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.
The Trust is a busy district general hospital and in 2022/2023, there were more than 503,342 patient attendances (inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery. This is an increase of nearly 10,000 compared to the previous year when there were 494,387 patient attendances.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
* MSc in Health, Quality or leadership related or working towards within 2 academic years of appointment
* Leadership programme or equivalent
* RN/RSCN Diploma or Degree
* NMC Registered
* Management Qualification (ISM) or relevant management experience
Desirable
* Advanced communication training
* Continuous Professional Development portfolio to include clinical and leadership training
Experience Essential
* Knowledge of advanced clinical, psychological, and social needs of patients attending urgent /acute care
* Good understanding of strategic health economy strategy for the delivery of care
* Good knowledge of national and local targets, NICE Guidelines and policies in relation to care
Desirable
* Experience of leading patient involvement/patient feedback
* Knowledge and experience of capacity planning
* Demonstrate a knowledge of Trust corporate objectives
