Are you a graduate in Food Science or related subject, and looking for a career in food safety regulation? This involves visiting businesses, speaking with business operators, assessing standards and food safety management systems, and ensuring compliance with food law.
An excellent opportunity exists to join our environmental health team which plays an important role in public health protection in Argyll and Bute, and receive training and support to attain the SFORB Higher Certificate in Food Practice and become a Regulatory Services Officer focusing on food safety.
The candidate requires to be enthusiastic and motivated to help enhance the team. The base location is flexible, although preferably the post will be located in Oban. Knowledge of the application of legislation to ensure compliance would be beneficial. In addition, the candidate must have the ability to work to specific deadlines and have good IT skills.
A knowledge of food safety law enforcement and/or food science would be an advantage in supporting the team delivering the Councils Food Law Enforcement Plan 2023-25, and the Council will provide training and development to allow the successful candidate to attain the Higher Certificate in Food Standards, whilst undertaking a wide range of work in food control and other areas.
The post requires excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with a range of stakeholders including businesses, residents, Council services and external agencies. The applicant requires to be flexible as there may be a requirement for some working out of normal office hours including weekends.
This is a temporary post to the 30 June 2026, although there may be a potential of securing a Regulatory Services Officer post, as the environmental health team have a good record of developing careers and "growing our own".
