Description HOUSING SERVICES Cleaning Operative Full Time (Reference number 106432) £23,656 per annum The Cleaning Operatives are responsible for the day to day delivery of a front line estate cleaning service. The purpose of the Neighbourhood Services Team is to help keep the local area safe, clean and tidy and to provide advice and support when needed. The Cleaning Team play a vital role in fulfilling this aim. This is a varied role that involves cleaning communal areas of our estates and accommodation. This will include stairwells in external blocks of flats, communal areas in sheltered schemes and homeless hostels, void temporary accommodation as required. You will need to be flexible and willing to work at a variety of locations as and when required, sometimes at short notice. This is a physical role and you will need to be able to walk up several flights of stairs, move large refuse bins (up to 1100 litre) and perform a variety of cleaning tasks. This role involves lifting and carrying cleaning equipment around site. You will be expected to clean bin sheds and report bulk / fly tipped items and repairs as required. Daily cleaning tasks include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning toilets and kitchens. You will be required to clean hazardous waste such as bodily fluid, vomit and faeces if the need arises. In addition to your usual daily tasks you may also complete specialist cleaning tasks such as carpet cleaning and steaming using equipment. There will be a requirement to carry out maintenance of hard surface areas such as removal of moss and small weeds in drying areas using hand tools. Good communication skills are essential both over the phone and face to face. You may be required to work on your own or as part of a small team and will need to self-manage and prioritise tasks to be effective and meet the purpose of our service. You must have the means to travel from site to site, such as a bicycle. Full driving licence is essential. The role includes cleaning kitchens, bathrooms, toilets and laundry facilities, so good mobility to carry out these tasks is essential. The successful applicant will: Have a proactive approach when responding to cleaning issues Be able to work independently and as part of a team, using their initiative and judgement to find appropriate and effective solutions to issues as they arise. Be able to identify and consider other resources available to them to achieve results for our customers Be willing to safely clean and remove hazardous waste such as bodily fluids, faeces and hypodermic needles Have a good understanding of COSHH and PPE requirements Be responsible for maintaining stock levels by requesting stock in a timely manner Be prepared for, or have experience of, a physically challenging role where you will mostly be travelling the estate on foot, moving heavy items, mopping and moving buckets of water up and down stairs The successful applicant will have the means, and be prepared, to travel between sites Have a full driving licence Special Conditions: The post holder will be required to travel from site to site in Gosport. The post holder will be required to wear the uniform and safety shoes provided for carrying out the duties of the Post.
