Conrad Consulting have partnered with our esteemed Clients to present an opportunity for a Principal Designer - Head of Compliance to join their Established Architectural Design practice based in Chesterfield, South Yorkshire.
Due to the substantial regulatory changes brought by the Building Safety Act of 2022, along with continued growth of my clients office alongside an increasing workload, my clients are looking to appoint an experienced and construction-focused Health and Safety professional. This role will be pivotal in ensuring the Practice's compliance with the latest regulations, managing and expanding their CDM Principal Designer services, and driving internal improvements. Additionally, you will lead training initiatives for the practice's designers in areas such as CDM, Health, and Fire Safety. This is a key position for someone looking to make a significant impact in a growing and dynamic environment.
You will be joining an exceptional practice that has successfully maintained its ambitious growth strategy, thanks to a diverse client portfolio across various sectors. Moving from strength to strength over the years, the company continues to grow, focusing primarily on the Residential, Commercial, and Retail industries, particularly large-scale urban residential projects. Key Responsibilities of the Head of Compliance
1. Prepare and review key CDM documentation, including risk registers, for new builds, refurbishments, extensions, and alterations.
2. Provide Health and Safety advice, guidance, training, and support across the Practice.
3. Play an integral role in supporting the Practice's Building Safety Act Working Group, taking the lead in developing and contributing to practice-wide policies and procedures, particularly those related to Building Regulation Principal Designer Services for both Higher-Risk and non-Higher-Risk Buildings.
4. Strategically develop and expand the Practice's services to create a strong foundation for sustainable long-term growth and success.
5. Provide CDM Principal Designer, Health and Safety, and Fire Safety services across a diverse range of projects and commercial sectors throughout the UK.
6. Deliver CDM and Health and Safety advisory services to support internal project teams, while collaborating externally with design teams and clients to mitigate and manage design risks.
7. Advise and support multidisciplinary design teams to enhance safety management during the design and pre-construction stages, ensuring compliance with statutory responsibilities under CDM 2015.
8. Conduct comprehensive internal training on CDM, Fire Safety, and Health and Safety for designers, and assess service quality through audits, offering relevant guidance and advice.
9. Prepare site constraint reports and assess significant and high-risk hazards.
10. Ensure internal design teams fully comply with CDM 2015 Regulations from project inception to completion, rigorously applying and adhering to the Practice's policies, procedures, and standards.
11. Conduct on-site Health and Safety inspections and provide associated reports to clients.
12. Attend pre-construction and construction phase design team meetings, acting as either CDM Principal Designer or Health and Safety Advisor.
13. Assist appointed duty holders in developing Project Specific Works Information and collating Pre-Construction Information (PCI) as Principal Designer or Assistant Principal Designer for both traditional and design-and-build projects.
14. Collaborate with the Principal Contractor to promote effective safety management and help define and maintain standards for Principal Designer processes and procedures.
Requirements for the Successful Candidate
1. Architectural background desirable but not essential.
2. NEBOSH qualified with minimum of associate level IOSH chartership.
3. Strong understanding of CDM Regulations 2015.
4. Excellent communication skills to liaise with various stakeholders.
5. Background working within large scale residential, commercial and retail projects.
6. Problem Solving capabilities.
7. Experience building relationships and liaising with clients.
8. APS membership desirable.
9. Proficiency with Microsoft suite and strong IT capabilities.
10. Driven and hardworking attitude.
On offer to the successful candidate will be a salary in the region £55,000 - £65,000 DOE and suitability, hybrid working arrangements with flexible working policy, 35 hour working week, CPD opportunities and a wider array of company benefits.
