A Catering Assistant vacancy has become available at Liverpool University Hospital. This is a part time post of 16.5 hours per week, working Monday, Saturday and Sunday, from 9.00am - 15.00pm. This post is based in the Tower Block of Aintree Hospital.
The tower block is the patient kitchen. Duties include collecting patient menus on the wards, stock issues, stock control, belt service, dish washing, pan washing and kitchen cleaning. There may be a requirement for working front of house in retail units, which includes using the till. Training will be given. The role does involve standing for long periods of time in a hot and humid environment.
IT skills are required for all positions as the Trust does mandatory training and yearly appraisals online. You will be required to study for your level 2 Food Hygiene certificate, Level 2 Food Allergen training and NVQ 2. Experience of industrial catering is required.
We are looking for staff who are self-motivated and can work in a team or on their own unsupervised. Although the jobs are primarily based in the unit advertised, you may be required to work anywhere within the catering department depending on the needs of the service. This could include the Royal & Broadgreen hospitals. You may also be required to work bank holidays, including Christmas Day.
Main duties of the job
1. Involved in the preparation and service of meals to patients, staff and visitors.
2. Required to undertake a wide range of cleaning and monitoring duties associated with maintaining food hygiene within the main kitchens, ward kitchens, dining room and coffee shops.
3. Ensuring that at all times, a high quality service provision is offered, maintaining Trust values.
Job responsibilities
1. Work as directed by catering supervisors in accordance with local procedures.
2. Assist chefs with basic food preparation and cooking.
3. Use of equipment and machinery and cleaning materials as required.
4. Use of industrial catering equipment.
5. Taking and recording of food temperatures as directed, report temperature failures.
6. Compliance with food hygiene and Health and Safety regulations.
Person Specification
Experience
* Previous catering experience.
* Previous use of cleaning machinery, dishwashing or pan washing machinery.
Knowledge
* An understanding of the importance of good food hygiene.
* Health and safety basic knowledge.
* Numeracy and literacy skills.
* Barista training.
* Knowledge of cash till systems.
Qualifications
* Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate or equivalent.
