A little more about your role...
WSP has a large, highly experienced and friendly Ecology team who get involved with a diverse range of multi-disciplinary projects within the UK, Ireland and Internationally for both private and public clients. The team prides themselves on the integrated support offered by working alongside our in-house water, landscape, arboriculture, Natural Capital and sustainability specialists to deliver commercially balanced, innovative and integrated solutions.
As one of the UK's largest ecology teams with a growing portfolio of projects, WSP is looking to appoint a talented and ambitious Regional Lead for Ornithology covering North-west England / North-east England / Scotland / Ireland to help support our growing portfolio of project work and shape the future of the Regional Ornithology Team.
Your New Role What's Involved?
* You will be responsible for shaping the future of the Regional Ornithology Team, in terms of structure, technical specialism, and quality of service. WSP provides a generous training and career development allowance, and you will encourage and support use of this to develop individual and Team development goals.
* You will lead and mentor the growing Regional Ornithology Team to produce timely, accurate and high-quality products and services.
* You will be provided with the autonomy and support to influence and shape staff development, current work streams and expand the current customer base.
* You will act as ornithology technical lead for a range of projects, including technical review of documents, provision of technical advice to clients, liaison with consultees and production of EcIA and HRA reports.
* You will be responsible for revenue generation. This includes assessing, co-ordinating and contributing to tender opportunities as required.
* You will engage with your Team through regular meetings to plan forward workload to adequately deliver the forward workload.
* At all times, Health, Safety and Wellbeing will be a priority for you and your Team.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate...
* An appropriate academic qualification in a related discipline and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (mentoring and support is available to progress along all stages of membership).
* Experience of staff management and a passion for developing and mentoring individuals as they progress their careers at WSP.
* A detailed knowledge of the technical assessments underpinning ornithological work in support of large development projects and through the EIA and HRA processes.
* Project management expertise.
* A proven record of supporting clients through devising and delivering survey programmes, developing pragmatic, cost-effective mitigation, gaining the agreement of regulators and supervising implementation on-site.
* Managerial and leadership experience, including resource and capacity planning.
* Experience in undertaking impact assessment in relation to bird populations on and off site for a variety of projects across multiple sectors.
* Lead author role for Habitat Regulations Appraisals and Appropriate Assessments.
* A proven record of winning work from commercial clients, particularly in the energy, highways and local Government sectors.
