The Directorate of Corporate Services is responsible for the effective delivery of Corporate Services to the Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA). Corporate Services includes Governance, Performance, Private Office, Internal Audit and Assurance, Communications, Procurement, Finance, Health & Safety, Human Resources, Programme Management Office, Property & Facilities, and Regulatory Compliance Investigations.
Who is the Head of Governance, Risk and Planning?
The Head of Governance, Risk and Planning has responsibility for matters of organisational governance including risk, performance and business continuity as well as organisational planning and annual reporting. It is a high-profile role which is crucial to the delivery of effective assurance to the Accounting Officer (the Chief Executive) on the management of risk, assurance, planning and internal controls within the Agency.
A pivotal role in driving a culture of good governance to ensure systemic improvements in processes and compliance throughout the MCA. The role will be required to develop and continuously innovate governance, reporting and planning processes and work across the agency to embed and support other directorate teams. It will ensure that the agency remains compliant with relevant statutory, regulatory and government requirements.
The post holder will provide expert guidance, support and insight on risk management, organisational performance, business continuity and planning, ensuring that the agency is able to monitor and manage its activity efficiently and effectively.
Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* Lead and develop the Agency’s approach to risk management in line with the government’s Orange Book requirements, ensuring effective design and implementation of policies, procedures and practices for risk identification and mitigation strategies
* Responsible for the process and development of agency performance reporting, ensuring that there is accurate and timely performance management information developed and reported within the Business, including to the Executive Committee and Board, aligned to regulatory requirements, ensuring data integrity and accuracy
* Develop reporting templates, tools, and guidance to standardise reporting and drive best practice and innovation in reporting, optimising the utilisation of tools to manipulate and visualise data. Ensuring that all the governance procedures and policies are fit for purpose, up to date and accessible to all colleagues.
* Develop and publish of the Annual Agency Business Plan, the Annual Report and Accounts and the Management Assurance exercise, including ensuring a clear process and timeline that aligns to government requirements and preparing the annual Governance Statement
