Reporting to the Financial Controller, this role would suit someone looking for their first or second move out of practice or someone looking to continue their career in industry have qualified in recent years. There is no line management responsibility for this role, instead the right person will be an excellent investigator, collaborator and communicator who will be tasked with delivering a series of accounting and finance projects. In delivering this workstream you will be supporting the teams in Ops Finance mitigate risks and maximise opportunities for the business and improving the financial control environment along the way. Lead investigations determine ‘root cause’ of issues, collaborating with teams within Finance and beyond to generate solutions and process improvements to mitigate risks and realise opportunities. Support the finance teams with technical knowledge and expertise to further strengthen the financial control environment. Prepare and review monthly management accounts, highlighting risks/challenges or areas requiring review and or attention/action. Prepare and review statutory accounts and annual reports, collaborating with others to ensure all information is present and accurately reported. Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring the integrity of reported assets and liabilities, seeking ways of mitigating risks and identify opportunities. Ensure all Group submissions are completed accurately and on time with appropriate supporting information and commentary. Ensure accurate and timely posting of journals to the Finance system. Support internal and external audits as required. Support business transformation activities as required. Ensure all standard operating procedures are complete and updated annually. Ensure compliance with the Group Financial Reporting Manual and Screwfix internal controls. Where appropriate, escalate risks/issues to Financial Controller for review, mitigation and discussion Identify process improvement opportunities which support continuous improvement as part of Screwfix Smart Working. Support senior leadership with ad-hoc projects as required. Qualified Accountant. Experience in the retail industry and/or in a centralised head office or Shared Services structure. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively across the business and with third parties. Intermediate Excel skills as a minimum. Financial acumen - ability to analyse and interrogate high volumes of data to guide commercial decisions. Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics or Coda would be advantageous.
